I understand that Gaming is a very competitive niche but I do not want my domain to go to waste.

Since I don't have much gaming knowledge and experience, I might turn my Gaming Website into a Gaming forum.

Which forum software is better? PhpBB or SMF?

What is the earning potential using Adsense? Or is it too low to even attempt this method of making money.

I'd like to set goal of $20 a month, any extra would be a bonus.

Never done it but when I talk to admins on forums using adsense they say it covers cost for site and thats about it, but its a good way to promote other niches and a good advertising source for anything your trying to sell

You could go with SMF which is way better then phpbb but if it were me and I was serious I would go with v bulletin for sure just my opinion. V Bulletin also makes it easy to monetize your forum. If you choose SMF check out dream portal.

I have a forum with SMF and adsense and I get about $20-$30 a month from it with pretty much the same traffic daily. I think I get about 200 logged in users a day. Between 5k-10k page views a day. I don't do anything with it to optimize, though I really should.

If your getting 20-30/mo amd 200 /day yea you should be paying more attention to it. Forums can take off out of no where and become a honey pot. Also you can migrate smf into v bulletin and monetize the hell out of it.

I tend to leave the site alone as it is used more to promote my DVD sales as I am a racing videographer and the site covers all the racing in the areas that I film. The adsense is just a bonus. I also have banner ads from local companies that I sell for around 300 a year on average.

I have thought of trying to start another forum but I spend so much time on forums, I don't really want to admin another or build up the traffic like I have on this one.

    Thanks for the tips though!
