Forum Backlinks

It really depends, for link SEO, Im sure any high ranked forum would be more beneficial than not having it at all. But one of the great things about forums is if people really care about your website or product, they will take the time to link and and tag your website and actually start a discussion about it. The credibility you might gain from this may be more important than the small SEO boost.

Also wanted to ask. Does DA / PA of the forum page you post on matter?

For example, does it matter if I post on a top Reddit forum or would any Reddit forum be sufficient?

I have not heard anyone doing single variable testing to test out what you are asking. getting a backlink from a top reddit forum carries with it deletion because of their admins, other lower rated forums have more relaxed admins. if you are able to get a backlink from one of the top forums and not have delete it, go for it!

notice, that I did not and am not able to answer your question: because of not seeing any test with solid results around this.

I am not sure about the general consensus but about a month ago I built a bunch of manual niche relevant forum links to a website of mine. All of which have decent authority, and quite a few of which were do follow, yet, thus far, they have not seemed to help my rankings very much.

Yup, there is value with active forums. Just make sure they are d-o-foll-ow

how is your on-page SEO?! if it is not solid, then you will have a hard time ranking.

Hey I recently hired someone from the marketplace to forum spam for one of my sites. What's weird is that while the number of dof0llow links did increase, my domain rating on Ahrefs actually went down. Is this because of too many links from one forum pointing to my site?

Is there a limit to the number of backlinks that should be pointing to my site?

Not to spam, you need little experience to make spam work. I was talking about hand picked quality forums.

Think I won an SEO contest thanks to a forum link back in the day. No point in spamming though, just focus on providing value on an active (niche) forum, and if you can get something other than signature/profile link from there, it will be worth it.
