forum and profile backlinks

Hello, I found out that most of these kind of backlinks, even though seen by ahrefs and majestic, are not displayed in google by using the command inurl: and therefore not indexed.

Does it mean those backlinks are useless?

In my opinion it does, I know there are some people out there who feel that provided the URL has been crawled by Google it will offer a benefit.

Spammy looking ones don't get indexed, those which have been created properly with the right anchor text, image, etc can and do get indexed.

Well I am getting around 60% of my automated forum and profile links indexed and they have 100% auto generated spun content that makes no sense....

It makes a huge difference for Google if you place a link on a forum that is full with spammed links, or if you place a link on a niche forum with good backlink profile and age, related to your website...

some niche forum i visit, I post link in bio and in signature. and they do get picked up by GWT and ahrefs.
though, I only do naked url there.

Totally true also profile from crappy domain like from gsa is hardly got indexed, it's better to use this for your tier 2

they were useful in 2009-2010, at that time you could rank a website only with Xrummer creating 10k forum profiles links a day directly sent to your money site.
Google penalized that strategy in 2012 (or so).

A link from a forum is useful for Google or ranking purposes if (as mentioned above) it's a niche relevant, high authority forum that provides do-follow links. It's more important to use forums/message boards to get AWAY from the whole search engine ranking racket, and go for direct link-through traffic instead. If you post on the most active threads of forums with very high levels of monthly visitors (say 100k visitors a month on up), and you make compelling enough comments you should be able to draw lots of visitors through o link, without needing Google. They provide little real power, but they are very good to diversify and make your backlink profile look 'real'. Also, like other posters said they can lead to actual traffic and conversions from customers in your niche, if you add value and do them correctly.

If I see forum profile links on an expired domain, which are natural and niche relevant, then that's perfectly fine. However creating random spammy forum profile links on purpose is terrible. A couple here on there on supe relevant forum can definitely help with referral traffic and Google loves that. The link power value is minimal, but that niche relevancy makes up for it big time.

Think of it this way, if search engines didn't exist would you post links to your site in forums? Damn right you would, but you wouldn't waste your time on ones that weren't relevant or had no traffic.
