Formerly 301'd Expird Domain

A domain with good backlinks that has been 301'd and then expired again. Any hope for saving it? Most likely toast but just wondering if anyone has been able to save one.

And what exactly should be the problem with that domain?

Where was it redirected? Even if it was redirected to some spammy crap site, it wouldn't hurt the domain, unless it was spammed with some automated links.

301 redirects have no long lasting impact on the strenght of the domain.
