Does anyone have experience building links for sites in other languages? If so, have you found that it matters what language the site you get a backlink is from in comparison to your own site?

What I mean is...I have an entire site, from the domain name to the content, all in another language. Everything is foreign, except for it being a .com and what I'm wondering is - have people ranked well using backlinks from sites in different languages?

Or should backlinks be from same language sites for best effect?

the best answer lies in the
    Code:
    www.google.com/webmasters/tools/
You can change your target location of visitors there. Its also important you get a backlinks from the same language.

No, that's not quite what I meant. The sites I am running are in Spanish - there is no point in webmaster local targetting for these because if I say "Spain" then I just wiped out the whole of Latin America! Etc.

This also applies to the domain, all my competitors and me are .coms, precisely because no one is trying to target only one of the many Spanish speaking countries in the world.

All I mean is - if I get an anchored link somewhere, does it really matter if it's on a page in Spanish or a page in English etc?
