For people doing the "dentist" method..

A couple questions. How many google places reviews is too many to beat? Do you frequently beat Google Places with enough backlinks?
I have a keyword that has no matches for title, desc, h1, domain, no domain age or PR, and 10 backlinks, but 29 google places review. Should I be able to beat them, or am I wasting my time?

For 1 town I'm just underneath the google places and I get a decent volume of visitors daily. 50 000 people in town... monthly uniques = 300 visitors...
But unfortunately in my country dentists can't advertise by law as I hear from them...
So I have a site ranking but I barely can use it except for adsense perhaps...
