For a Blogger Page, is a .com worth getting?

I'm curious as to how domain names interact with blogger and similar sites. Do backlinks benefit both the blogger link and the domain name, are they individually tracked, does the domain name provide benefits?

I think starting with Blogger logs will rank higher that same WP based site
Start with Blogger but move to WP when you're comfortable!
