Footer Location Links?

Just want to know your guys opinion on this. Let's say I have 50 locations, in 50 states. Is it OK to link out to those states in the footer, considering each location has its own subdomain (think of craigslist)? Or should I just stick with location page and link out from just that 1 page.

I do that on many of my sites, but not 50 links.. I'll randomly link out to 3-5 of my other sites in the same industry, but different cities.
And, FWIW, I usually have the links in the sidebar, rather than the footer.
