First I just wanted to say I've had my account for a little over a year now.

I have been following a good amount of people for about 4 months now, and this past weekend I got suspended for following about 420 people, which I had been following close to 400 for the past week and a half anyway.

Twitter says you can follow a maximum of 1000 people a day, so how are you even supposed to come close to that without getting suspended?

Should I try and follow 150 at night, then when I wake up before I leave for college, follow 150 more? or would that still have the same end result in me getting suspended?

Edit: I usually follow all at one time also, i guess they count that as "aggressive following" smh

Where does it say you can follow 1000 per day?

I guess you should follow a few accounts per hour, I got my accounts suspended with more than 15/hour. Less than that, you are safe.

you can follow 25 - 50 per hour but only 1 follow per 2 min

Did you make any tweet or upload any photo on your account?

I tell you what you've done wrong - is UNFOLLOWING on the same day or the 2nd day after mass following.

Even with aged accounts the key is not to look like a marketer but a normal human being, normal people don't give a damn about the excess followings therefore don't mass unfollow every 2nd day/same day.

If you follow 1K people and unfollow them the next day & repeat that pattern - get ready for a ban hammer.

I've had my account for 2 years+ I have never been banned on any of my accounts I will only do a mass unfollow once in a week or sometimes even after 2 weeks. You need to be smart about things, if you want to get your account back and this is your first violation on that account - tell Twitter you made a mistake and you clicked follow too fast every day (don't say you used bots) agree to your mistake and tell them it won't happen again, they'll give your account back.

It says that on their help desk page when you look at their following rules.

When the violation happened, I hadn't tweeted in an hour or a little bit more. I did favorite some tweets though, just not actual tweet from my page.

I do usually mass unfollow every day or every other, but only the folks that don't follow back. Someone told me you could unfollow people that don't follow you back and it wouldn't get you suspended. Not sure if I was mislead there or not.

I don't use bots, I use a third party app to find people who tweet things that I'm interested in by key words or by retweeting accounts that tweet things my tweets are generally about. So to a sense, I do mass follow. I've been doing it since the last week in November of 2012, and I never had issues until now when I started going up in my numbers on how many I did at one time. Like I stated in the opening of the thread, I had been mass following around 400 people for almost 2 weeks, and there was no problem until this past weekend when I went about 10 more followers over what I had been doing.

This is why I posted this thread, to see how to follow a good amount of users without actually getting suspended for it, if I should break the mass follows up to at night and in the mornings.

The key is to be active on twitter and engage your followers! Don't make it look like you're trying to follow in order to gain followers. Twitter only allows AutoFollow Backs in the following 'scheme' of thingss. Gl

You mass follow & unfollow on the same day? That will get you banned if you repeat the process for a few days - that is probably the reason for your ban I'm afraid.

Maybe your account looks so fake. Got 5-10 tweets with 400 following and few followers?

I was doing a 100 a day using manage flitter but my accounts started to get suspended. I switched it up to 35 per day and just added more accounts and no suspension yet. I usually give people 2 weeks to follow before I unfollow. I think this happens when people report your account for following too much. This is just a suspicion I have so I may be talking out my a$$.

The idea should be to have more accounts doing less actions EACH. Rather than a few accounts doing more actions. Scale with accounts rather than actions per account.

Couldn't agree more with this statement.

First thing is don't follow then aggressively unfollow. That will definitely get you suspended. 400 a day is about what I do. Just spread it out and you shouldn't have any trouble.

What's your follower and following count? I've been mass following 1k a day on multiple accounts for the past 6-7 months with no ban.

I think some folks got confused in the 'scheme' of things. I did not get banned, I got suspended, and I was able to start tweeting and direct messaging no more than an hour later.

I'm going to try and answer everyone without having to try and quote everyone.
I use manage flitter, I usually follow and unfollow a night before bed at around 10:30 p.m. I am just looking to increase my followers in a way of not getting suspended again.

I have 7334 current followers and I am following 7200 people back. I usually tweet on average around 6-7 times a day. I would like to get to 20K but for now I'm shooting for 10K.

I have been unfollowing followers that didn't follow back every night before following the new followers. I did that successfully since November. So maybe I just need to change up my tactics, I'm not sure.
I was just looking for how to follow and increase follower counts without getting suspended. I follow most back who follow me except guys my age and younger. I also try not to follow them either due to the usual smart remarks you get. I try and keep my account following female tweeters based off of topics.

Exactly, there is no point in buying fake followers because they dont respond or engage with you. People also are not stupid and can tell you have a fake account.

I was really surprised that twitter unsuspended my account. Apparently you just have to contact them and agree not to add too quickly.
