Following accounts - Count mismatch?

I don't know whats wrong here, I've been trying to figure out whats the reason for this happening. Not even sure if anyone else is facing this aswell.

So I've been following accounts manually for some time now, around 200 per hour and 1000 per day.
After I manually follow 200 accounts from other relevant usernames, when I go back to my profile to check on how many people I have actually followed (subtracting the old following value, with the new following value) I only see that I only followed about 50-60 people. And it gets different for every account. I have accounts that only actually follow 30 people after I manually follow 200 people.

Anyone else faced anything similar?

youve hit limits for those pages, rest a few days then slow down and try again follow less people over a longer period of time
 
If your following in the app.. I highly recommend you only follow MAX 75-100 people per hour. You can still follow 1k a day though but a safer number would be around 600-700 for the day.
 
hit limits for those pages? What exactly do you mean?
 
You are probably following users who have their profile as private and those will only show in your following count when they accept your follow request.

yu can only follow so many people in a day and in an hour, if your reach that limit on one of those pages, that action (following or unfollowing people) gets disabled for a while usually 24h but can be longer. following 200 people in an hour is not possible and so you get a ban, then limit lies somewhere between 60-100ish people and hour depending on howold your account is and a few other factors

I've been unfollowing 200 per hour since a long time now, havn't recieved anything for it. Accounts 5 month old.
The only question is why is the amount of people I actually follow different from the followings mentioned on my account stats. Is it because I'm following private profiles? If so, I have also tried only counting non-private profiles that I follow; the actually number of people I follow is still greater than the mentioned increase in followings.

You don't get it, although datsunguy already explained it above. You hit hourly limits with following, you're just led to believe that you follow that many (200/hr) people, but in fact you follow less, exactly the increment of your following value. Just look around, there are quite a few posts about Instagram limits in this section, this limitation included.

when you hit the limits instagram doesn't tell you (not always anyway) and so after you git the limit you can press follow on another account but after a few seconds instagram reverses that and makes you unfollow

Yes. Agree with you.
Also try to connect facebook to unlock it
 
If that's the case, I would completely be able to follow only 50 people and check back to see if I actually did follow 50 people right? But in my case, even just following the first 10 of the day after giving a few days rest, it still shows around 2-3 per 10 following

When you follow someone, does it show "following" or "requested"?

But they will still count as a follow right? Just like following any other non private account?
 
So basically the shown incremented value of followings is not to be used to keep track of how many you followed, instead I should keeping track of my following/hour made with some other method?

yes they do, they just don't show up until the follow request is accepted.
