Is it possible to check what countries are following a specific account on Instagram?

business accounts can have a location property, normal accounts can not.

You could try and scrape the most recent (X) images from each account and see if there is a common theme in the location property of the images and assume that is the country of the account. But would be prohibitive due to # requests required on large accounts.

Same here, I usually use the hashtag with the name of one or multiple locations and use that as my location data.
