So I just graduated from school with a degree in physical and health education. I also play a sport at a very elite level and that is what I am best at in life. I am also pretty knowledgeable about fitness, nutrition, weightlifting as well.
I am having a hard time choosing a career path and also whether to go for a "safe" option or a risky one such as IM in these two areas.
My biggest strength is my level of ability in my sport, but almost any form of a career or job in my particular sport does not bring a lot of money. Sure I can do it, I would love it, but i still need to pay the bills right? My 2nd strength that isnt as strong, is the whole fitness thing, but the level of saturation and bullshit in that market deters me.
The problem with this, is these are my 2 biggest strengths and also my 2 biggest passions. I have spent so many hours training in this sport and it seems like a waste not to do SOMETHING with it. I could have been doing other things in life during that time and could have learned other skills ya know?
Anyone else have similar situations where they had to give up something they were REALLY good at in order to "live" or do other things in life. This sport is my identity and life, so this is a huge decision i feel. I also feel like i chose a degree that didn't yield the best options because it is a "gateway" degree in a way and requires further schooling for other things...some of which I do not have the grades to get into. Beating myself up for this which isn't making it easier.
This forum is filled with a lot of great people and would love to hear some input from others about their experiences and/or people they know.
