Though I've never tried it, lawmakers in Florida recently passed a bill making sativa divinorum a controlled substance, and thus illegal. Supposedly this was due to the recent increase of youth using the drugs and posting videos of their actions while high on Youtube.

I heard this while listening to Bubba the Love Sponge this morning. Not that I'm against protecting our children, but seriously, our government has bigger things to worry about then controlling a natural herb. Hell, alcohol and tobacco are bigger dangers to youth AND adults, yet you don't see them banning that! Can you say "tax revenue"???

Anyways, just my vent for the day. Stupid fucking politicians!

Stupid fucking laws in this country. I'm the furthest thing from a pot-head, High Times-subscribing, hippie, and even I know that pot is nowhere near as dangerous as alcohol. Or tobacco for that matter. Ever watch that Hooked show on History Channel? Interesting to see how and why some of our idiotic drug laws exist the way they do today.

Alcohol, tobacco, prescription drugs, etc all worse then most of these herbs and plants the Govt keeps banning. Disgusting.

Bubba the Love Sponge rocks. Well, it looks like I'll have to get out to Siesta Key this weekend and pick some up before this law goes into affect. You need any extract booman?

I've only tried the leaves myself. Kinda felt silly walking out of a surfshop with a paperbag of dried up plants, but it did the trick. I find it VERY hard to believe anyone would use this to get 'high' or actually become addicted to it. Shit tastes really awful and the experience is more spiritual than anything else. If you don't use extract, you have to do several bong hits and hold it in for awhile to get anything off it.

I believe it's salvia divinorum, not sativa lol. I've used it a couple of times, and there's no way you can get "addicted" to this stuff. It's not like smoking pot, nowhere near it.

I first heard of this stuff 3-4 years ago before it was in the media, although I knew it was only a matter of time before it was widely recognized and eventually banned.

florida gonna have a real nice time with that, considering ups and the internets still exist.

those kids are dealing with a plant considered sacred,
thinking they're going to 'get sooo high, mmmaaann'
and then when that shit hits, they realize its not always soo 'cooool' being that high.

people need to be aware of these plants and there traditional uses, this condemnation of plants in the usa is such a knee jerk reaction.
The first drug laws regarding marijuana were passed after big synthetic companies got done showing the congressmen videos of black guys smoking the reefer and hunting them down a white girl.

its funny, the subject of salvia keeps showing up on this forum :)

I guess great minds smoke alike?

it is a spiritual experience, I would almost call it a trip into some blurry weird dimensions.... did anyone else get the needle sensation where you feel pricks running up your skin? it usually happens right when you start lifting off...

Anyways, it is spiritual, and spiritual can be frightening, healing, painful, and downright mind blowing. its messed up that there is no room in our culture for young adults interested in exploring their minds to 'not' be able to do this stuff under the guidance of someone who actually knows it like tribal cultures. We just condemn, condemn, condemn, and then it just turns into a criminal enterprise.

Florida is just one of many states banning salvia. It was just a matter of time before someone decided to ban it. Screwed up laws in this country. The criminal justice system is a joke. Alcohol is far worse than weed or salvia but you don't see the politicians banning it, that's how they get off.

From the videos that I have seen salvia would be much worse to drive a car "under the influence" then alchohol or weed
    IMO

I agree, the laws are fucked up.
marijuana, shrooms and herbs are 100% natural. It's the man made or processed products we need to worry about. Like alcahol, cocaine, heroine, pharmaceuticals etc. Those drugs are processed and made.
