The issue is that if somebody wants to believe in something, he will find a way to believe in it and wont care about facts.
I don't have a problem with conspiracy theories, mostly ones that are about people in power and their bad decisions.
For example: did hitler survived, CIA stuff, spying of everyone, Weather manipulation, UFOs, government stuff etc
These are all fun to talk about sometimes, and some of them are true some are not, some are half-truths, and that is the beauty in it. These are complex theories, its not like its all black and white, those in power are control/power hungry even more so they are willing to do stuff that just seems crazy until there is more evidence.
However, there are some theories that are just plain stupid, as you need to discard all basic math and physics in order for them to work. The problem is that the people who think this often don't even know anything about math and physics, so its easier to believe in something that will make you feel special.
Then, they tie that all with their religion beliefs, and at the end you get stuff like:
Earth is round
Space is fake
There is no satellites internet goes though giant cable under the sea
You cant travel above 20 miles in the air, there is a dome over the earth that prevents that
Earth is 7000 years old
etc
then they will watch some youtube videos that will give examples like "If earth is not flat, why dont you see curvature from the plane?", and the person be sitting there high as motherfucking dragon, saying "yes, I don't see curvature from the plane...." and then those videos will give him plenty of similar examples which all work for flat earth, then the youtube algorithm will recommend you more of this kind of videos and you are down a rabbit hole.
The only problem is, half points from those videos are false, or half-truths, and the other points can be explained in the simplest ways, why is that correct but doesnt mean that the earth is flat.
Meanwhile you are there watching these videos, KNOWING how you are superior to others and how everybody else is stupid because they are not enlightened with truth of flat earth.
Its just basic psychology and human ego, and lack of logic and knowledge of physics and math that makes them start to believe in something absurd as this. The fact that there are many youtubers who do these kind of videos for a living, doesn't help. These videos can get million of views, and the owners of these youtube channels are making tens of thousands of dollars every month, and their only job is to create new "proofs".
I have a friend, who believes in all theories above (marked with orange), and he is not a stupid person. Last year, when there were fires in some parts of USA, he showed me the video and told me "Look, here is the special laser weapon that CIA is developing and now testing, look how only some parts are burned and some are not" and I am looking at this video, I notice that its CGI, but I didnt say it. Then, I looked at the date of the video, it was published 3 years ago. I just showed him the date when the video was published, and he just put his phone in his pocket and changed the topic, but did it so it wasnt as noticeable. Maybe he realized that he was wrong but didnt want to admit to himself.
So, for anybody thinking earth might be flat, but its not. You can spend a couple thousands of dollars and prove this yourself, the real question is, are you smart enough to make that money?
