Thinking about setting up a Flash Games Website. I understand that there is a lot of competition and getting among the top sites will be incredibly difficult but i don't believe that you need to be among the top to still earn a decent income. Wondering if anybody owns or has done in the past a games website? Ill be using free games for now till the site grows and then ill begin contacting flash game developers to hopefully get some exclusive games just to my site. Hopefully that's something you can do.

Just looking for some tips/advice, is it worth it?

I created flash game site about 3 months ago and made $0 with adsence. I targeted people using low competition keywords only. Maybe I need to invest more time but this niche is super hot.
 
It will be very hard to achieve something in this niche. There are already many competitors. You need to make some unique to get attention.
 
I own several flash games websites. You can check the analitycs of one of them below. Since April my adsense is over $14 000 only for that website :)

I usually buy old domains (flash websites) This one took 3 months of work to climb to top 3 and is 2nd a few months in a row in 500 000 exact US matches/monthly.

My formula

1. Old flash games domain
2. Private network with unique content.
3. Aged/New Web 2.0s with unique content.
4. SEO SpyGlass - I check all top 5 websites and drop my link where there is PR and low OBL
5. SB scraping different footprints with main kw and long tails. PR checker/OBL checker - than manual commenting.

I target niches from 50 000-500 000 exact US matches/monthly. There is some decent traffic from UK and Australia for some niches.

There are many programs out there but most importan is to do proper keyword research before to jump in any niche.
 
thinking about games website ..., what the platform you are using ? thinking about wordpress with arcade plugin , what you advise ? just adsense for monetization or mix with other ?

I use modified wordpress theme for all websites. Modified for speed and adsense optimized. Very light but still I use CDN for good user experience. Speed is major SEO factor as well. Any plugin like arcade is ok if it saves time to publish games. It is good to write unique description for each game.

just adsense for monetization or mix with other ?

95% Adsense+ buysellads.com/ I target mainly US traffic.

Linode.com - $59.95 plan. Most reliable vps service I know. This plan could handle up to 200 users online on this website. The script is optimized for minimum requests but its core is WP. I plan to move on custom CMS next year.

you can find better plans on other hostings like hostwinds/stablehost/..etc
 
When people don't know a damn thing about the market, why the hell do they move in and try it out? Do you know the reason why people would go to a site and play flash games? Its for the benefits of having fun with their friends really quickly, the social experiences they have, and the little minutes of fun that appease them til they get out of school or off work.

Damn, I could school you all day on how to first setup a proper base for the flash games, on a community site to actually introduce yourself and get followers and fans. The only really secret to any flash site or any site in that matter IS loyal fans. Enough said, just woke up and can't be fucked to offer any more hints or advice. BTW, I create flash games besides normal pc games as well. Good luck bringing me some plays ...
 
I've tried many during the years. Leason learned - no compromises with hosting especially if one website is making around $100/day. Any downtime is lost money and sometimes it hurts se rankings badly.

I have not "Moved in" because other than playing games i have no experience on running a flash game site which is why im ASKING questions before i do so. What has you being able to make games got to do with anything? This "Good luck bringing me some plays" Doesn't even make sense.

My first project is in this area - I choose flash games as it's something I'm interested in / enjoy.

In G UK I've ranked around 3rd-5th for the term "Free Games Browser". I'm trying to work on keywords with more traffic, but as said above - it's a competitive area.

Fairly new site and my suggestion would be use Google Keyword Checker FIRST! If you want to have a look:

Let us know on here or via PM if you have any questions on it, was set up via Weebly and is getting a reasonable amount of Traffic. Obviously any tips from the gurus would be welcome to.

EDIT:
If you do visit and it plays one of thoose annoying video ads please let me know! Adbrite doesn't seem to be listening when I tell it don't play sound with video clips.. Any solutions to that also welcomed! (It just seems to ignore me unchecking video ads).
