First Year Computer Science Student

Um, the message suggested that I introduce myself so here I go! I'm a first year student going for my computer science major, networking and security is what I hope to get into but honestly I've never had any hands-on experience with it. I haven't picked a side (white or black) so I kinda wanted to join to get to know people on the corporate and perhaps covert side of things? I know this might sound silly but like I said I really am not very knowledgeable on this stuff. If anyone here has experience or advice that'd be great and I'd love to chat but it might be a bit dull since it might be one-sided! I've been an internet user all my life and grew up with it though so it won't be too bad- anywho I'm rambling- I'm here to meet people and learn a bit about what I'll be getting myself into!

Good choice, now get your hands on practicing code.
Never go to just 1 coding language, learn the pattern and use the one that you feel most comfortable.
Choose a framework and practice API's mashape.com

Thanks for the tip, checked out the section but all that is pretty over my head, right now all we've learned is some basic Java and apparently that's all we get to learn until next year. I've looked around the site for some ways to make money and tried some of the article things since all this advertising ish is way over my head... I hear about JV's which I assume stands for Joint Ventures but I can't find the section for it on the site. Anywho I haven't made a dime yet T~T but I'll keep trying, I'd honestly just feel more comfortable working under someone or working with a guide to kinda get the hang of things. If you know anywhere to get that kinda experience for a dedicated guy with little experience lovely, but I think for now I just need to have this open in one window and Google in another until I get the jist of the slang on here. This is such an overwhelming wealth of knowledge people seem to already know that I kinda feel discouraged and behind...

Total noob to colleges and all, but what exactly is the difference with software engineering (honestly I was kinda forced into this major by my friends and I'm kinda lost already)? I was very interested in learning to code until I realized I could pay VA's $4 an hour to do it for me. Nevertheless, its an amazing skill to have. Good luck with your degree and your online journeys!
