First time with Facebook ads

Hi.

I wanna try Facebook Ads for my business but I don't wanna get it wrong. I need some advice.

I don't use Facebook myself but I have an old account that I used like 5-10 years ago to play Zynga Poker with. Would that account be good to run the ads with? I want to run ads in the US and I"m based in Europe - will that be an issue?

Then the next step, do I make a Facebook Page for my business and attempt to post through that? Is it usually a complex procedure tweaking up all the settings before posting the ads since I'd want specific target groups to see my ads?

IMO, you can keep this simple. You do not need to overthink the setup.
Your old Facebook account is fine. Facebook does not care if you used it years ago for games. What matters is that the account looks real and stable. Use your real name in your profile name, then add basic profile details, and enable two-factor authentication. That will helps you to avoid account restrictions later point of time.

While creating your advertisement account on FB, just need to set your billing currency, time zone, and ad location correctly.
Create a Facebook Page for your business. Ads run from a Page, ....not from a personal profile. You do not need to post regularly before running ads, but the Page should look legitimate and genuine with a logo, description, & you business contact info.
Then while creating your AD you choose: - Your objective, like traffic or leads; The country or states you want to target in the US; Age, interests, or basic demographics; Your daily budget.

Important part is , start with broad targeting, simple attractive creatives, and a small budget. Let the ads run for a few days before changing anything, like any kinda settings .... you can refine audiences and settings slowly.

If your old account is still active, use it to run ads; older accounts are usually much stronger than newly created ad accounts.
 
Your old Facebook account is fine to start, as long as it’s real and in good standing. Being in Europe while targeting the US isn’t an issue at all. Yes, you should create a Facebook Page for your business—ads run from Pages. Ad setup isn’t too complex; targeting is done inside Ads Manager, not through posts.

Just dont do sketchy stuff and you should be good to go, also take your time to learn facebook ads before you start in order to avoid burning too much cash

You can use this account as long as it's still able to run Facebook ads. Of course, you'll also need to set up a new page for advertising. You can run ads in Europe while you're in the US; this is perfectly normal as long as you have sufficient infrastructure and warehouses to handle the transportation and storage of goods.
 
Thanks to everyone. There's a small problem though - that old account I spoke about that I used back in the day for playing poker there doesn't have my real name - is it gonna be bad if I change the whole account name now to match my real one that I'm gonna be using to pay for the ads later?

If you can still log in to your account from 10 years ago and it's still active for ads, then it's a great and reputable account. However, for those running ads, always back up at least two more accounts to secure your page and prevent Meta from disabling your account for no reason (yes, they do that often)

Your old account can absolutely be used to run ads if it's still functioning normally and has no violation history; in fact, it might even be better than a new account. Europe isnt an issue for US ads. You’ll need a facebook page and ads manager. Setup is simple, targeting takes a little trial and error.

You mentioned about opening a page for your business, that's a nice idea and it will suit your ads because sometimes people look at the page or page name that posted the ads.

an older personal account works fine, being based in europe while targeting the us isn't an issue at all for fb ads. and, you'll need to create a fb page and run ads through ads manager tied to that page, don't run ads directly from the personal profile

If you want to avoid mistakes, you need to learn more about the skills and knowledge required to run ads. Running ads is easy, but making a profit is not.

No problem, billing will not affect the profile name.
