This won't be my first time making a website, but it is the first time I will monetize one. My niche will be fishing as I know a ton about fishing (I know in depth about rods, reels, baits, how and where to catch a lot of types of fish in saltwater and fresh, how to build custom rods, etc. My main method to monetize that I'll be trying is amazon and bass pro shops. Might even try a few methods on one site if possible (I can build custom rods and baits).

Since this is my first time actually monetizing a site should I start off with a MNS or go for an authority site? I will also be coding the site from scratch. Oh, this will also be white hat and for the long term.

So, should I start off with a MNS or authority? Thanks!

Start with a MNS, but put it on a branded website, not an emd. Focus on one part(fishing rods), build out the content, build it into an authority micro niche site. Build up the site authority, build up the social media.
Then if you're happy with the site, making money, you can grow the site, micro niche by micro niche. Make it into a broad authority site slowly, if it is successful.

Don't worry too much about it .. Find some low competition keywords, purchase a domain, then try to rank those keywords. Once you have a bit of money coming in, and you have a bit of experience under your belt, you will know what path to take with that website.

After 6 months in the field, it becomes apparent what the best route will be.

But I would recommend not purchasing a domain name that puts you into a small corner. Go with something a little bit broader, and more brandable. That way, you have the option to either leave it as an MNS or grow it into an Authority.

When your creating a site it helps hugely if the niche is something your interested in and passionate about. And when the niche is something your really into it makes sense to go for an authority site.

What kind of fishing are we talking about? Coarse, sea, fly fishing?

Also, where are you from?

Born and raised in south east Florida. I do inshore saltwater most of the time (snook, redfish, sea trout, tarpon, etc), but I do a lot of large mouth bass fishing in between. I do both on casting/spinning and a good bit on fly too. Getting ready for the shark migration in jan/feb right now.

Thanks for the replies so far, I really appreciate it.

Actually it really depends. If your overall niche is expandable and large enough to rank many keywords I would go for an authority site but if you're going for a few keywords and you're going to solely monetise on those ones then niche site is the way to go. I've had countless niche sites rank for high monthly searches mainly because their so targeted for the certain group of keywords rather than an authority site which is more general towards a niche.

Nicely said man.

This is a solid advise to follow, buddy.

Thanks guys! I'll make MNS to start and slowly build it into an authority with 1 micro niche at a time if it's viable.
