First time here, failed auction need help to avoid sale without getting negged.

Alright so i did a auction which ended and the sale value was less than expected and i will lose a good amount of money, i was wondering how can i get out of this sale without getting -ve feedback. They already payed me.

I've been thinking to tell buyer truth and refund them, but i done this before and still got neg.
OR
Make up a story, saying my account got screwed and i can't do the sale or something..

Its in the ebay section so Im guessing on ebay.


@OP You could tell them that the item was in a box (if that applies) and when you took it out it was broken. Then offer them a refund and ask them not to leave neg feedback.
 
You could send them the most apologetic email in the world and tell them that it got damaged while you were packing it (if that's even applicable). Personally, I would most likely eat the cost. Is it a lot of money? I would never tell them the truth though because that will just piss them off.
 
learn from the error and start the auction at a price you are happy with in future, take the positive feedback and move on
 
yeah it is on eBay, its actually concert tickets that i was trying to sell to make some money, forgive me but i need money, my first time, its a loss of about 20% for me it is a lot and i can't afford.
 
In cases like this you want to portray the image that you're doing the (failed) buyer a favour.
Don't tell him you were expecting to get more money, you'll just piss him off. Concert tickets are quite a difficult one to explain away, as you can't exactly say that they were broken, so I'd advise something along the lines of that you 'emailed Ticketmaster (or whoever) to check before you sent them, and they told you that they were duplicate tickets registered to someone else and that YOU (the seller) must have got ripped off when you bought them online.' apologise profusely and say that 'although you could have sent them without checking first you have a duty to protect anyone buying from you', mention that you're really pissed off because now you 'effectively lost all the money you spent on the tickets'. Tell him 'of course you'll send a full refund because there was no way he could have known the tickets were fake' and apologise again.

This way he'll feel like you've saved him from the annoyance and embarrassment of having fake tickets, he'll feel like YOU'VE taken a 'hit' (lost money) and like HE owes you one - not the other way around.
 
But he knows that i got it from ticketek, so what can i say?

Dude honestly then there is no way out. maybe try saying that your having problems with the process of getting the tickets form ticketek?
 
but i told him i hadn't received it yet when he asked me, should i say they were lost in the mail? is that the only option?
 
You may have to take a loss no matter what. What I would do is tell them that you no longer have the tickets but you are willing to "compensate" for the trouble by sending them $5 or $10 on top of a full refund. Most of the time they won't neg you, but of course come up with a good story on how much your Ebay account means to you and how sorry you are that the tickets aren't there. Make sure you don't relist it before they leave feedback. It all depends on how you handle it, if it means a lot to you, I'll get their phone number through Ebay and call them up, you'll be surprised how nice people are when you are talking to them on the phone instead of emailing...
 
Sounds like you punched yourself in the metaphorical face a few times before starting this thread by telling the buyer too much. Accept the loss and move on imho.

How much is your time worth to you because the longer you spend trying to get out of it, which likely won't happen btw, the more it's costing you in the long run.
 
How much is negative feedback worth to you? i am sure more than you will lose on the tickets. Move on learn from your mistake.
 
I meant to tell you earlier that if this happens again just end the auction early if it looks like the price won't go up. I've never done this myself but I've seen others do it. The only downfall is you must end it within a certain time period( I can't remember the exact time, maybe 24 hrs or it may be less). So you were suppose to order the tickets to send straight to the buyer? If that's the case, I don't see how you can get out of this.
 
Yeah, I think the core of it is immaturity. You made a mistake. Take the hit and move on. Or, act like a douche and take a step towards what might be a life-long habit. The "I intended to make money and since I'm not, and also failed to establish a minimum reserve, so now I want people to help me avoid doing what's right" routine is like cancer. It infects you, and those around you also. GTFO, is what I'm saying. You deserve neg rep here for even asking for it. The fact you've gotten neg rep in ebay (but it's the "1st time" you said, so are you lying?) in the past says you ain't too bright, are a slow learner, take shortcuts and do things the easy way, are someone honest people ought to avoid, or some combination of all of the above. Lesson that cost money are the best in the world. Pay the money and learn the lesson, or get ready to be a fucking dumbass that repeats the same mistakes over & over again for the rest of your life.
 
er okay. i said first time here which means its my first time in this forum, how did you interpret it as first neg?

about the situation, i told them i lost in post but they didn't reply, no feedback left, i'll leave for a few days before sending transaction cancel request

i read that making a reserve price is not good because the buyers don't like it?

i learnt from this but, i will not try and sell tickets for extra money again.

like I already said above, offer to compensate $5 for the trouble. It does wonders... and make sure you call them up and apologize.
