how to set up an affiliate program. I've searched Google many times but can only find sites that talk about the process rather than how to actually set one up.


I'm looking for a program or software or anything that will allow me to have affiliates sell my product and and get their commission or notify me of their earnings so I can pay them out. I have quite a few people who are interested in joining me but I don't know how to make everything legit.


Where do I start? are there any free programs I can use?

I am not sure what you mean about setting one up? I am only getting into this area of work now but say for example you are using a website affiliate program then they should be giving you the affiliate link or else a XML file to integrate to your website. So check out whoever you are joining as an affiliate and they should have a page about this.
 
It depends on what you're selling and if you want to have the affiliate system in house or on a 3-rd party site like clickbank, cj and so on.

if you're site in on wordpress try wp affiliate, it's great for having an affiliate system in place, quite robust and does the job nicely.
 
What is your product? If it is a software or an ebook you could use clickbank and create it over that. For physical products there are a lot of shopping carts that allow you to set up an affiliate system but you would have to somehow advertise that to affiliates.
 
Lots of affiliate networks, cj, shareasale etc which will have tracking links for your affiliates. Another option is to buy an off the shelf affiliate program software package and run it, or else have someone else run it for you. Most important part of any affiliate program is to get productive affiliates.

then sign up in amazon , Cj or other CPA adNetworks
 
Until we know what it is you're selling and how then it's kinda hard to answer the question. If you don't want to run your product through a 3rd party like JVzoo or CB then you'll need to have something on the backend of your own website.

WP has a lot of plugins that allow you to do this and it's usually a much easier option when it comes to setting things up.

If you want to set up your own network for your product, you can try "Cake" (getcake.com), Its really good. Many Big Big Networks are using this.

If your site is Wordpress Ecommerce Site you can try "Wp Affiliate Manager".

So I have a newbie question here: What happens if someone clicks on an affiliate link and that person has already visited the company website. Will the affiliate be paid if that person purchases the product?
 
Hey Thenum. If you got that user before via your, say, Google ads, most likely you'll see a conversion there (depending on cookies life-span); in that case you could potentially argue the Sale with that affiliate and dedupe it. However, this isn't a common practice and typically advertisers still pay for that (unless, for example, you explicitly state that affiliates can't bid on your keywords and the affiliate went ahead and did that). The situation changes if that user is already in your database. Ultimately, your campaign - your rules ;) Just make sure everybody's on the same page and all in T&Cs
 
There are various solutions, you can join an affiliate network and become an advertiser or you can use affiliate program software (just search in google). It depends what your product is.

Seems like a few of them has gotten the wrong idea, he actually wants to set up an affiliate program, not to join it...

If you're using Wordpress for your website, you can try WP Affiliate Manager.
You can also try other affiliate programs or plugins depending on your website and database, try to search with the correct keywords.
