OK so following tutorials here I researched my niche and registered key-word friendly domain. I also installed a CMS. Now before I start getting content are there things I need to do? Should I add google analytics?

Definately Analytics is must to track visitors .
After site is ready do On-Page SEO and then go with OffPage SEO

What CMS did you install? Wordpress? If so search for All-In-One SEO in the plugins section, it'll help you get on the way to optimizing your site for the search engines.

I installed DotNetNuke. I think they have lots of plugins though, I'll see if I can't find something similar.
