I started building my first niche site 7 months ago. At that time I did not know anything about SEO. Until now I have got 10 sales, $50 earned, that's a big fail for me, but anyway that's my first site. I have to keep learning a lot to make big money.

I read a lot when I first started but I only learned when I took action. Here I what I have learned deeply so far.
1. Nobody cares about 2nd page results. Yes Nobody. I wrote 40 articles but only 3 articles brought sales. Only the 1st page article brought me sales. I dont even see clicks from 2 page articles. Whenever you write any articles. Try to rank it on the first page.

2. Do your keyword research carefully. I definitely cannot compete with high authority sites articles, know who you arẹ. I underestimated keyword research because I watched some videos on youtube saying that you dont need to use tools. Just use Google suggestions. That's not true. Maybe some experts can find low competive keyword, niche without tools but that's not me.

3. Think about how to monetize your articles.
Yes, I wrote an article " How to set up Yoast SEO", I did not think carefully about how to monetize this article. Yoast does not have affiliate program, How could I monetize this article? selling SEO course?. No, the competion is huge. I wasted my time to write 4000 words article for nothing. Write articles that bring your money.

4.
Post content regularly, Google loves that. In the first 1.5 months. I posted content but I stopped after that. last months I kept update content, post more articles. I see the huge increase in traffic. Write long, article with images, videos, internal links, external links. Link your site with related articles. posting your content regularly. post 2 articles a week, 8 articles in months, 48 articles in 6 months is better than posting 48 articles in the first month.

5. Backlinks
Again, the mistake comes from youtube. "You dont need have to building backlinks, just write quality content, the rank will follow" NO. Content is king, but there's so many kings out there. I definitely need backlinks. GOOD backlinks.

That's all. I'm not SEO expert but I learned from my mistakes. Hope this helps newbies like me.

Links matter, as always. Even though content targeted with long tail keywords tend to rank faster, links are the internal juice pushing them up.

Thank you for sharing your experiences. It is actually really useful. Good luck for the future!

Your next site will be a success based on what you have learnt and you might come back to this one again in the future and turn it into a success. Letting it age for a while is never a bad idea.

hard experience to learn. Now you helping others by this thread. Good Mate.

Thx for the share. Are you hiring a writer to do the writing for u? If not, how do u pump out so much content?

What kind of backlinks do you intend to create? Noob too but my understanding is to avoid profile links at all cost to your money site.

I'm not expert, but right now I'm building web 2.0, social signals, PNBs. All the information are already shared here. You only need to search for it.

Avoid profile links at all cost? Why?

Cause it seems spammy to google and can get u penalized. Noob here but based on what I read they should only point to web 2.0.
That's not correct. Web2.0s can also look spammy.
