First PPC campaign, help :)

Hi guys,

I'm trying to start my first ppc campaign with adwords.
i have selected a product from CB, that i want to promote using the skimming method,

I need some advise on a few things.
I have read googlemoneypro and Adwords Miracle, both are giving me conflicting techniques, basically Adwords Miracle, tell you to keep it small, whereas GMP tell you to load your keywords and Adgroup to a large volume.

for instant,
For a campaign, how many AdGroup do you create,
and in the AdGroup, how many keywords do you put in ?
can i have, some, same keywords in my adgroups?

Anyone willing to share some tips on their successful campaign,

I don't know what the skimming method is but the amount of ads and keywords is going to to totally depend on what you are advertising.

When I have a large list of keywords and phrases that are not similar I prefer to create many adgroups with many ads. Don't forget that if the keyword that is being searched for is used in the ads headline, it will be bold and will eventually drive your costs down. Ads that have the entire long tail search query as the headline (the entire thing will be bold) typically convert better , for me anyway.

If you are just starting out, you will want to avoid general keywords, depending on the subject there is always going to be someone out there that can afford to throw tons of money into dominating the market. So I would think it would be wise to create as many longtail phrases as you can, then create ads using those phrases in the headline.

Also, really do research to find out whether or not broad match, phrase , or exact works best for you, I prefer to use phrase matching whenever possible, and ALWAYS use negative keywords.

My instructions suck but I hope that helps you a little bit. I cannot stress how important negative keywords are, I took a serious beating when I first started because that was the one thing I didn't pay much attention to.

Also, I hope you're not promoting ladyboys, that niche seems to be fairly sewn up for the time being.

One last thing and I only mention this because I see it quite a bit, if you decide to use general keywords, make sure you look at all the various meanings for those words, because that can do some damage, I had some ads running for a client using some words that are commonly use in searches involving Myspace and that audience is click happy no matter what the ad says.

Skimming is that use the vendor's sales page as my LP directly, i just do a php redirect from my domain,

Buzzkill: are you using any tool to create your keywords?

I'm still experimenting.

For me, it depends entirely on the offer itself.

For example, I did well with one CPA offer that had the potential for many ad groups, each individually targeted to a specific online or console game. That campaign did OK, but only after I asked the advertiser to give me a better-optimized landing page for my ads. Honestly, some of these landing pages can really suck in terms of SEO. In this case I didn't construct my own landing pages.

Other times, I'll jump on a new set of key words based upon google trends and really sweep the floor with a single ad group in one campaign. Since I'm not up on pop culture, celebrities and such noise I have to hit the searches early to grab some bucks. In these cases, I don't usually construct my own landing pages since the wave of traffic is mostly short-lived.

well that's a technique i can use to look for niches,
for me i go to CB look for products abt $50 per sale,
that do not have to many affiliates, see the LP and sales pitch,
check if the trend is picking up or going down, it the niche is too competitive or not.

then work on my keywords based on the site,
i use google keyword suggestion tool, based on site.
pick out the general keywords, and use it as my Adgroups,
then generate a keyword list for individual adgroup.

good or bad?

You just type in some of your main keywords or phrases and some suggestions will pop up in a dropdown. Then you want to go through each letter of the alphabet added after your keyword or phrase to uncover some other broad search suggestions of which you may not have found elsewhere. It's a bit tedious, but you can uncover some real good phrases sometimes.

Oh, and I usually don't allow a maximum bid over 0.15 at first. I seldom need to raise it if everything is in place.

DO NOT give in to the temptation to raise your bids if you're not getting position or clicks; it's most often a losing battle that will ultimately leave you in the red for that campaign. If G doesn't like the combination of your campaign and your landing page--combined with what your competitors are bidding, they'll just keep bidding up your keywords as competitors pile in. If Google keeps disabling your keywords, look at the SEO of your (or the vendor's) landing page as well as better focusing your keywords.

If the numbers aren't working, pause the ad/campaign.

Hi sorry just read this. I personally like keywordelite, I think his software is solid. I also pay for wordtracker although I have heard some people say keyword universe is better. I find that I am filtering a lot of junk with wordtracker. The advice above about not getting into a bidding war is one of the best pieces of advice on this page, its really easy to fall into that. Check out what Harros budget is and youll see why you dont want to fight for placement. As far as negative keywords go, thats totally going to depend on what youre promoting, just do some searches and look for sites that dont fit and figure out why they came up. I promote free samples of herbal products so for me the word free is necessary. Make sure you document every change you make and by no means should you EVER contact Google for help unless you are positive you are totally within every guideline, I did that on my first attempt and lost my account the same afternoon.

been busy with work and baby, so the campaign is taking a bit longer.
ive decided to use long tail keyword,
i run a few searches in google for my long tail keywords, so far i don't see any sponsored links yet, so i guess thats good news.
the google suggestion lab, is useful! Thanks.

board keyword ( 2 words ) i use, shows 20 mil searches ( still no sponsored links )

im gonna create 10 adgroup and approx 2000 keywords in each.
excluding the phrase and exact match
is this sufficient?

ty180sx your going to get caned badly if you dont get your research correct from the beginning, listen all of the keyword tools are fine and dandy if you know how to use them, wordtracker is a great source for keywords but you sound like your just starting out so l think you need a system to ensure at least the keywords your using get good ctc click through rates or at least keywords that buyers would use.

A shortcut for you to find out what keywords any website is using is to go along to the free seo tool called seodigger.com and put the website url you want to find what keywords they are using and seodigger will give them to you in mins, it makes sense that if the website has been going for a while then perhaps they have already done the hard work of finding which keywords work the best for them.

If you want to spend around 4 dollars for a few days you can go to spyfu.com an absolutely brilliant tool that will not only give you the keywords any website uses, but their adwords budget they spend each day, they ads so they you can be creative and produce ads similar and if you ask it nicely you may get a cup of coffee and a acon sandwich as well, either way you'll no longer be fishing in the dark. nicho

2000 keyword per adgroup is too much, try to create more tiny adgroup, o your keyword could have a little difficult to get impression.
