Hey guys,
Good news just landed my first paid consultancy job for a gym, 4/5 of the role requirements in SEO/SEM are fine for me to handle, I would like to use Google ads to obtain some new leads for this gym, has anyone done anything similair? I won't have access to their website as their are a small gym in a massive franchise company. Should I drive traffic to a page and get contact details?

Any ideas would be appreciated with thanks :)

It should be easy to target but make the move real slow at the beginning if it is a new site.
1. What the age of the site? Where they are ranking on the given keywords now?
2. Since you cannot do anything to their onsite seo, go tell the owner is it possible to place a link to their franchise company.
3. Go search any local related biz websites and ask for a link back.
4. Place in those weight lifting, gym, slimming, beauty, health...etc local forums a signature with the anchor text =NAME of the company.
5. Sign up free local directories and place links there.

The above not necessary to be done in order, and they are personally tested and proven a guaranteed push for some local biz sites I promoted. All the above links are best if the links are placed in the local sites, even better if their hosting IPs are in local too.
It always the 1st thing I did for local biz seo.

After which, I will then do my normal seo like social, articles, directories, bookmarking....campaign.

Drive as much traffic as you can to a page that promotes the gym and gives some sort of sign-up discount. Also, target people within the area - if you begin targeting the whole country then basically what you're doing is useless (unless they just want the website to rank higher globally and not have much people join the gym). What I'd start with is getting people in the area to notice the website and at least signing up for the gym's newsletter or some way of contacting the people that visit the website (you can do this by saying that the newsletter will provide nutrition facts, discounts, etc.) after that you can begin expanding and promoting to a bigger crowd.

I would recommend using geo targeted sms marketing also.
