First ever site purchase help!

Hey guys,

I am about to purchase a site for the first time.

The person that I am about to purchase the site from is asking me to deposit the money into his paypal and give him my godaddy email. Is this usually how its done?
I just am making sure that I get the site which I am going to be paying for.

Please help a first timer!

Usually people use a service like flippa, but it sounds like you're setting yourself up to get scammed. Depending on what you're looking to invest, I'd try to get in touch with meathead1234, I'm sure he'll steer you in the right direction.

^what he said. The route youre taking is not a way I have ever purchased.
 
Use Escrow.com if possible. Paypal isn't really going to protect either of you. If the sale is small (say under $1k) then Paypal might be more practical if you understand the risks. Also get a basic contract signed if you can.

How big is the sale?
 
If it's someone I haven't done business with before, I use escrow.com. The amount of the sale will determine the escrow fee. Better to be safe than sorry.
 
The sale is only under $100. But I did not think that it was the correct way of doing it.
 
Can you send me a dummy contract so I can get an idea of how it should be worded?

I think the guy was trying to scam. After I asked him to use Escrow he has not responded!

Escrow isn't really worth it under $100. Neither is a contract. At that level, go with your gut and try avoid dealing with random people with no rep - it always surprises me how many people will happily rip you off for $100.

Finally you realised you were about to get scammed.Next time before making a purchase make sure you know every possible way you could be scammed that could minimize the risk of getting scamms as you know all those mothods scammers use these days or contact someone who is an exertise in that field.
 
There are some other sites that I have found for under the $100 price point. What would be a safe way to get the money and website exchanged?

You might want to give him more than a few hours until you decide he's a scammer. When I first started and was selling a few online game sites, I just had the person send the money to my paypal and then I pushed the domain to their account.
 
yeah, for a $100 site i would use escrow or flippa either. Just $100 isnt really worth doing a service like that. Go with your gut. If your buying the site for $100 it should basically be an empty site.
 
Best places to buy ready made sites are flippa number 1 and smaller forum sites like DigitalPoint.

If you are looking for high pr domain then go daddy.

If you don't trust a transaction the best way to handle it is usually via Escrow.
 
I am buying the site but the site is not empty it is a very well built site with alot of content.

I think you rather build a site yourself and invest the 100$ into it. I'm in no way an expert but my impression of your post is that you think buying a site for 100 dollars will get you big moneyz from it. A 100$ site doesn't sound like some moneymaker.

Edit. I just wrote your reply above that it has great content and it is good built. Really, why would someone sell you a site with this great content? For such a low price... something doesn't add up, but I guess you know more details. my 2c
