You can autoblog with other plugins like caffeinated content and wp-o-matic. I've never used either of them. I read a lot of posts and decided that wprobot was how I wanted to go from the start.

To me it's worth the money. I can relatively easily get a content coming in no time. I keep an eye on the posts for a few days and tweak the campaigns and then I move on and build more blogs.

Building the blogs is easy, working on the traffic is where the work is at for me.

WPRobot doesn't care how competitive a niche is. That's irrelevant. You set up each module based on the keywords of the content you want on your site and it pulls content with the keywords you select.
