Hey everyone, just want to start out by saying this is my first real Adsense journey, so go easy on any of my newbie questions :P I've played with Adsense in the past, but didn't really know what I was doing. However I have worked for years in web development and programming, so I have those bases covered well.

The butterflies, stars, and excitement of this new journey has died down, and I am now simply grinding through my required tasks. I have since learned about proper keyword research, and I have targeted keywords for four sites, ranging from 1500-5400 avg monthly searches, with very low competition. Before making this thread, sites have been made in WordPress, content written, and I have set up Adsense, analytics, and webmaster tools. At this point I'm just trying to figure out the best way to rank for these keywords, so I am just working with one of the sites at the moment. I have been doing some backlinks from quality manual blog comments on relevant .edu sites. But so far I have done about 20 of these in the past couple days, and I'm not sure what else I need to start making this first site rank. Any suggestions would be very appreciated! Once I figure out what to do and see some results of some kind, then I will be applying the methods to the other sites too. Which reminds me, how long does it take for new backlinks to provide results? I have pinged these 20 or so links from 247, as well.

Thanks in advance, and a big thank you to everyone I have lurked off of and learned from so far! There are too many to name :-)

Sorry if that post seems sort of rushed - I sent this from my phone on lunch break from my 9-5... Which I hope to quit soon! Hahah. Some day...

My advice would be to focus on content for now.

Even with a MNS you'll want a decent amount of content (posts, pages) targetting your KW's so make this your top priority.
Recently Google has been taking it's with ranking new sites so I'd advice you to get a SERP position tracker (I use Lightserp, they even give out free credits upon registration) and add your domains with their respective KW's so you can track their position from day to day.
I personally would give it some days / weeks to see which SERPS you are getting without backlinks and then build links accordingly.

Good luck on your journey!

Awesome! I will certainly look into that. Thanks for the tips!

maybe it should be on IM Journey sub forum, but Good Luck mate :o

Best of luck on your journey mate!

I'd say create good few topical articles related to your niche other than your "money keywords" as it were (link back to your money keywords from these other topical articles).

Also you said "how long does it take for new backlinks to provide results?"
It depends on the backlink, sometimes a good backlink will cause an effect within days.

But speaking as someone who has been punished in the past with various Google penalties, I'd say take great care in your link building. Think quality over quantity.

Other than that, test, evaluate, rinse and repeat! Never give up!

ive also been playing around with adsence in the past and im thinking of doing something serious with it, keep us updated.

Ahh! Sorry about the wrong section. Something was telling me there was a better section for this... Is there any way to move this on these forums, or am I stuck?

For succeeding with the Adsense, regularly post fresh contents into your blog. Plus high quality backlinks toward each blog post.

Try making contextual links, from different platforms. I noticed linking from zendesk gives a great push, good way is to make 3 tiers all with secondary links to it.

Try like this: - T1 contextual links PR3+ to Money Site
- Secondary links (blog comments etc..) PR3+ to money site
- Secondary links PR1+ to T1
- T2 contextual links PR1+ to T1
- Secondary links PR0+ to T2
- T3 contextual links PR0+ to T2
- Secondary links PR N/A to T3

You can read about this on Jacob king blog. Its working good for me at the moment.
