And this is my point. You’ve got to discern what is the lesser of two evils: companies with commercial incentives collecting and sharing appropriate information simply to help them turnover a profit or rebels without a cause using it to turn your life into a living hell for shits and giggles or rob you of your hard earned money.

If you’ve got a legitimate data footprint it can help you at least recover any damage inclifted from a stray attack or prove your innocence even if somebody is spoofing your metadata to engage in criminal activity.
