Finding Extra Files Along Your Journey

Ops Ops Ops... please look and make sure me sharing this tidbit is ok and not breaking any rules... it has been awhile, life kinda threw me curve ball, lol, trying to recover and hit a base hit now... if it is not kewl please delete and just let me know... don't want to get in trouble in any way... thanks guys and gals.....

Hey guys and gals, Been a while for me...Started on a journey to learn IM etc. here few years ago and then got sidetracked raising our granddaughter and hit with a disability.... She old enough to go and visit and stay at her mom's for while now and I am ready to restart the journey and hopefully make some money to help us get back on stable ground... wow, forgot how much it cost to raise kids lol...

I wanted to ask the folks here what I should read and start with to basically start over as I am sure the world has changed lol... just a noob...lol... but I thought I would share with everyone an easy way I have found to find extra files out there while you are just surfing or searching for something etc....

Many sites have little or no backlink security... so let us say you are just searching for some obscure text or book... and let us say a friend sends you link...

put (http back etc)murdercube.com/files/Military%20Science/Special%20Forces%20Handbook%20-%20ST%2031-180.pdf wow so you have something you did not have... in this case it was not exactly what i was looking for but that

was ok... so here is the fun and how you can find other files..... warning ahead of time, it does not work all the time and it could be viewed as blackhat by some.... I try and let everyone I find along the way know there stuff not secure...

so anyway... you just go upto the end of the url string and backspace from the end, pdf in this case, back up removing text to the next / slash and hit enter.....

at this point you will either get security warning that you don't have permission, or a 401 or 404, but if you are lucky you actually pop into their site at the directory level.....

TRY IT ON THE EXAMPLE URL ABOVE TO SEE WHAT MEAN......

at this point you just browsing what they have there... in almost every case this is only files they have uploaded and is usually always an old wordpress but sometimes it is even a linux directory structure system...

you will be amazed at what is out there lol.... and how much of it is not secured....

You can try this with literally any url you use... i kinda have a habit of it now lol... you find a picture of hot babe or something someone sends you etc etc.. i find myself backing up to the next / and bam there were a hundred pics he was holding out on me lol... you get the picture...

Now the ethical side of this and how you use it is on you... I have found a couple of cases where someone could have wreaked havoc on the site if they wanted to.... When I find things interesting and I find a site that is open I always try and contact them and let them know....

Anyway, I have not seen this tidbit added anywhere before and thought I would share it.... you will be amazed at what you can find lol... was browsing one place and found a site of people practicing old rituals to pagan Gods complete with pictures and rules and etc.... crazy lol.... interesting none the less lol...

so hope you find it fun and interesting...

If you do and you have any new books that are relevant for me starting over on how to make some money to get family back on track I would appreciate it very much.... need a good mentor... any volunteer's lol...

p.s. forgot to mention just because you get a 401or 404 on the first time you backspaced to the next forward /, keep trying, I have come down to the last / and gotten in... so don't give up to early....

This example was just a small directory... I have found them with hundreds of files.... they can by anything... mp3, pictures, pdf, you name it...

another tip: once you find a directory with lots of files use the wget program and command line to easily just grab all the files you find....

example:

C:\movies\ebooks>wget -A.zip,pdf,epub,mobi --level=3 --recursive --no-parent --accept --no-check-certificate Zip,zip,mp3,MP3,pdf,epub,mobi,txt,doc,docs,jpg,jpeg,gif,png,txt,htm,zip,rar http://murdercube.com/files/Military%20Science/

Note that wget is run at command line.... also note in this case we took out the s in https from the above example... this allowed wget to get the files and worked without going secure... i am sure there is a command to tell wget to go into https but just as easy for me just to omit it... usually always works without it...

have fun... in the example above... i just grabbed all the stuff found there...

of course this is just for example purposes.... no files were actually harmed in this example.... how do they say it in the movies.... no animals hurt during filming lol...

Will have to give it another try. Before it went up level no problem but we need to go down levels as well and it did not handle that before... to be honest it is just so easy just to click up at the end of the url and backspace to the next slash/ . No problem... don't have to worry about a program... but will give it another whirl. thanks...

amazing what you can find huh.... lol.... i hope people like it.... this is one of those i learned on my own that has turned up a gold mine of files....lol...

Hopefully someone will share the newest best complete book to get me started again.....

Special note here: ok so we found jackdirty area, woohoo... here is another blackhat tip for ya... if you just try and go up one more / here you get his top menu page and a join or tour page and nothing else... but if you notice and look I started with the month /Jan/ hmmmm, so if you change that to various months /April/ etc etc you will find the rest of his files, whoo hoooo... now if u get error play with name, instead of November try Nov etc etc... this is nice lesson when looking for blackhat files out there.... don't just give up when you get to top level, play around little bit and you might find what you looking for...
