Finding Content To Write About.

I'm trying to get my site ready to apply to google news. Right now, we meet all of the guidelines with one being a little lackluster. That would be the frequency in which we post. I want to make sure our news is informative with at least several post per day.

So I was wondering, what tools do you guys suggest that we should use to find content to write about? Right now, we use social media. Such as being fans of Facebook pages related to our own content, and use twitter for the same.

Should we try Google alerts? If so, there are hundreds of alerts we could make that are all related to our niche. That seems a bit excessive, but then again we would like to post as much as we can.

How do you guys find content to write about?

Won't work for every niche, but I often look to social media, forums, Q&A sites, Reddit, etc for topics that have shown to be very popular. Manual search, and tools like InboxQ can be helpful in this. Eventually you will find enough consistent sources for content ideas, that you can just revisit them as you are in need.

Social media (socialmention works great), forums and newsworthy items on bigger sites, such as reddit seem to work well. I don't know your niche, but you can also come up with posts based off of comments for a nice twist. For instance, someone mentions that the new HTC has a battery issue and no one is reporting on it, but you find a lot of comments complaining about the issue. You can easily churn out a great article based off of this.

You can use Google Alerts

If you write about something that provides answers to common problems/questions people are struggling with, That can help you build authority articles.

if infographics are your thing, you can try them too, they can really help in making a site viral !

One question, if you choose "As-it-happens" how recent will the result be? Will it be really up-to-date or will it be something you already know from social medias?

If you want slightly quirkier news (I'm a bit of an oddball so I use these all the time) I'd give BuzzFeed and Lifehacker a go.
