Can someone throw some ideas at me? I have searched 40ish local charities or state charities looking for cheap backlinks. Everything I found was monstrous donations from large corporations, or lists of names/businesses without links.

Some charities list you on their donors page as a thanks. Some of those also link back to you.

Cheap High PR backlinks. If.. you can find them.

Yes.. I know you need to donate to the charity to get the link..........

I feel like I'm talking to people who don't speak english.

I am looking for charities to donate $1-$5 to, in order to get a high PR back link.

    Maybe that is clearer?

You have to change your whole mindset of how you do business.
Donating for a backlink wont get you anywhere (well maybe a few backlinks)

Don't donate so you can get a backlink... Donate because you want to donate(If you want to)... first of all...

Then, if your charity respects or values the work you are doing and you are worthy of a backlink, I'm sure they will give you one..

IF they don't, its an indicator that your business is not making a difference or helping anyone and you have to rethink what you are wasting/spending your time here on earth on ;-)

Edit: but that's just me. I don't mean to take the moral high ground here...a lot of people here make money that way, I just don't see you getting much satisfaction orther than the cash, which means your business might not have a very long life span

The first thing wrong with this is you said "You have to change your whole mindset of how you do business." And then went on to say how I should donate because I want to.

That is NOT business. I will donate to some charities on my own time, this is business I am talking about. The charity could benefit the KKK or slavery as long as I get a high PR backlink with good SEO value (obviously a charity of that nature wouldn't be, but I am making a point). I am not looking for a charity to donate to, I am looking for a high PR backlink, which can come from a charity.

Maybe I'm a little different then most here. I've donated money for backlinks before, and it is quite effective. Sorry, I'm not giving out the sites because I have live links on them. I did want to chime in because it seems some are taking the moral high ground, or so it appears. Donations occur all the time to effect some sort of personal gain. One need look no further then the lobbyists who are so effective at getting laws designed to benefit their own personal businesses and clients. Charities operate raffles, give away free t-shirts and offer other incentives for people to donate. In a nutshell, I don't think the OP will go to hell for wanting a backlink in return for his donation. In fact, his donation and link may look more like an angel's act when compared to what is going on in Washington D.C. and in other parts of the world.

Regardless, most charities send out literature by snail mail and/or digitally. A small donation for a link can lead to the link buyer gaining a greater awareness of the charity's causes and efforts. This alone may result in the link buyer donating more money not for a link - but out of the kindness of his/her own heart. It's a winning system for all - especially those that are helped when funds from paid links go to help the most vulnerable. Additionally, Matt Cutts and his team are not banning these sites or devaluing their links. The last thing Google wants is to be known for banning charitable websites that help to feed the poor, care for animals, etc.

Have you tried local pet rescue shelters in your area? Most would be non-profit. Not knowing the area you are located in, I can only make a generalized suggestion. Most would be supported locally by donations from the community and likely to appreciate any donation you offer that could cover the cost of pet food or animal spay/neuter. Another possible 'charity' would be pet related such as specific breed rescue shelters that house dogs who are abandoned. Even if the shelter doesn't usually offer a backlink, you could ask them to do so. Some might upon request. This would be true with any type of local charity.

Keep in mind that these are usually highly irrelevant links that get highly untargeted traffic if any at all. While they may be cheap and help with diversification, it may not be worthwhile, especially if there isn't an automatic procedure that gives you the link and that you can count on.

How did you manage to dig out this thread from grave :D

Anyhow, when someone is using blackhat techniques to get links, i do not understand why are we getting into moral high grounds when it comes to charities. Even big corporations donate and get tax breaks, so why not we get some backlinks.
