Finding a gallery that does what I need ... any advice?

I am currently designing a website and my developer is struggling to find a gallery for a wordpress site which I thought should be reasonably readily available and I wondered if you guys may be able to help?

The gallery I need is showing off a builders projects. There will be 8 to 10 thumbnails and a larger frame above them. Each thumbnail is a project, so when clicked, a set of 4/5 images will load to be scrolled through in the large frame. I attached a small image to show what I mean.

Any ideas where a gallery like this can be found - can be adapted slightly by my developer if needed!

Play around with NextGen gallery, I'm pretty sure you can accomplish something like this with a shortcode or two.
