Anyone know a sure fire why of doing this. Seen various ideas with one possibly working in Outlook, one possibly working in something else ...

I am looking for a solution that works regardless of senders email account. TIA

View advanced email headers. This option is different on every provider.

Just google "show advanced email headers (your email provider)"

Ya think if you pick the mail up in outlook, you can go options view headers or something - regardless of who or where it was sent from.

But, as stated above, I don't think it's that hard to fake that info.

20 seconds of googling reveal this:
http://www.johnru.com/active-whois/trace-email.html

And by the way, it's actually fairly difficult to spoof the IP headers...

...and even when is spoofed you will see original IP AND spoofed IP.

@TZ2011: partially true...

a) could be sent from webserver, hijacked server, free hosting account
b) could be sent from behind proxies thus making the origin ip useless
c) hijacked wifi, malware, etc.

Therefore you may find the "source" but, if they are rotating proxies or any other of the methods I listed you're chasing a ghost.

you can just look in to the headers of the mail .....you can find it easily.

This thread is only 2 years old, few more posts hopefully you'll realize there's a date functionality on this forum.
