Finally months after getting the dreaded manual penalty from G I finally got it removed. The interesting thing is even though I got the penalty in my GWT it took at least 3 months for it to affect my rankings, but then they tanked to the 100 postition. After filing at least 6 reconsideration requests I finally got it revoked. How did I do it?

-What did not work: hiring services to analyze links and then disavow the bad links then send request.
-what did work: disavow every single link pointing to your site.

Honestly it was my last time I was going to try so I thought what the hell and sure enough it got revoked. I read on here that somene else did the same thing with success. This is what I would do. I mean how can they say you got bad links pointing at your site if they are all disavowed?

Sweet man! I too recovered my penalty recently. Like you hiring a service to disavow links like linkdetox was a waste of money! The algorithm that they use is garbage, I think they only check if a link is indexed in Google to determine if its a bad link. That doesn't work.

I was only able to remove my penalty after removing links for three straight months. I decided to use a service because I didn't want to do it myself. I had just about lost hope when finally I was able to get the penalty removed.

Stay strong and you can recover your rankings!

Disavowing lkinks means tell google what some of the most popular domains for spamming are. Not a good idea but not everyone would share the same feeling.

From my experience till now didn't got any success with disavowing links.

Since you disavowed ALL links pointing to your site, did your rankings improve? Did your organic traffic level go back to previous, pre-penalty-levels.

That's exactly the fear many people feel about the Disavow tool. It is a CROWDSOURCING tool for Google. All they need to do is run a few scripts to see which are the most commonly reported sources and do 'further investigations' from there.

Do you think Google doesn't now it already? :)

Penalty removing took 2 months and 3 reconsideration requests. First month I used rmoov.com just to show to google I was working hard removing those links. Then, I scraped all links using scrapebox, filtered them by keyword and disavowed few hundred of them. For last reconsideration request I disavowed a few domains and it was enough for google to revoke the penalty.

It just happened today so I havent seen any movement. Still in the high 100's

only disavowing links will not help you will have to generate some quality backlinks after that.

Hey OP,

Which backlink checker did you use to download your entire list of backlinks? Ahrefs, Majestic, etc

Also, did you disavow on the domain level or each individual link?

That is amazing job. When my site get penalized, I used to abandon it.

Well if you disavowed every single link pointing to your website, how do you think you are going to rank for any keywords?

I just got all the ones that were left showing in GWT.

Start over. I have over 100 pages and its for an offline business so its a branded name.

I tried rmoov when I first started too, I cannot suggest them.

I tested my own domains to email through rmoov and all of their messages hit the spam folder! They just scrape Whois and use the same template to send mass emails. Everyone marks them as spam and no emails get through. I noticed many of their email servers are on spamhaus lists as well.

I use the disavow as a final task once I cannot remove the links.
