Finally Realised What I Need.

Today I give up my search for making money.
I have finally realize that learning skills now, instead of trying to make cash with no skills will greatly benefit me.
What do I mean by skills?
I mean Graphics Design, Wordpress Skills, HTML PHP, CSS, Java, javascript, sales pitch writing.

But why? You can just outsource it right?
Yeah but it never works like you want it to.. Unless you got loads of money. Everyone knows that the people like Harro who's got heaps of skills make the most money, cause he can do everything efficiently & effectively + because he comes up with better ideas simply because he knows more stuff.

For me, if I need a banner designed, I go on fiverr and try to get one. More often than not it takes 2 days + an hour fixing it up. If I want a site done I have to hire someone and then I end up with some shitty site thats not what I want.

I am starting my offline business of web design/seo/graphics design. January 1 2012.
Until then, here's my plan for what I am going to learn:

Graphics Design(photoshop,illustrator,fireworks) -->HTML -- > CSS -- > PHP -- > Make Websites -- > Add Javascript & Java --> Make wordpress websites --> c# --> Learn Spanish & Finally learn guitar....

Are you sure you are setting realistic goals for yourself? It takes years to master each one of those areas you specified, yet alone trying to learn all of them in such short notice.

Well I don't know what to say... in that time you can just work on one authority site and be making 5 figures easily.

But I wish you the very best mate with whatever you plan.

I think its a good idea, but I would just learn the basics of each and be a jack of all skills but master of none, that way you can get ready pre-made stuff that you will be easily be able to edit, in the long run if your getting $'s in your gona be working with a team of outsourcers that you will come to rely on

Yep...alot of IMers fail because they don't learn to code imo. Being a script kiddie and relying other peoples bots isn't going to get you very far. especially when you need something done and you can't find the script/bot to do it.

GOOD LUCK. I recommend learning VB.net also. Visual Studio Express editions are free

Funny you should say that... I'm trying to learn VenomSEO scripting and it aint' easy.

The longer I stay in this business the longer I realize how vital coding is. My advice. Skip graphic design, you either got it or you don't, it's worth it to hire someone who knows what they're doing. Look local, it may cost more but revisions and overall communication will be way easier. College students are poor and some are not bad. Make a legit site and e-mail some professors. Offer a 50$ gift card for an assignment, you'll get 30 variations of one logo and hopefully you like one. I've done this... it works. But I also belong to the University lol.

Yeah it took me along time to learn all the stuff you talked about. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. I started doing lynda training vids long time ago.

Well I definitely agree that having those skills gives you a huge advantage. If I wake up one morning wanting to make a new site for the hell of it and see what I can do with it, I can do that because it costs me nothing, whereas someone else would have to hire various people.

However, starting an actual company in 4 months? I'm not sure it's such a great idea, but I'm not telling you that you can't do it. It just looks a lot better to say you've got a lot of experience. It's taken me 9 years to get where I am now, so if a client was deciding between you and me, do you think they'd pick 9 years or 4 months?

That's not to say you shouldn't do it. Everyone has to start somewhere, and I am supportive of everyone, even those competing in the same field as me.

I'd say at least give it 8 months, but if you want to be up and running sooner, I strongly recommend dropping PHP for now. Focus on the essentials. Most local businesses just want a static site that doesn't need too much updating. If they want to update the site, instead of trying to create a complex admin panel in PHP, use your lack of that particular skill to your advantage and offer monthly maintenance services for them instead of a PHP solution.

That way, you can focus more on the essentials that you are going to need (namely HTML, CSS, Photoshop), you can produce better work, and you have the opportunity for some recurring maintenance cash.

Whatever time frame you give yourself to learn those skills and start your business, be sure to work your ass off to get caught up where you need to be. Design portfolio items weekly, post them here or on graphics/design forums for feedback, make revisions as suggested by your peers, then add them to your portfolio and learn from your experience.

Make sure you diversify your work. Each type of product, from a logo to a web design, presents its own unique challenges. Mastering all of them will help you be a better designer.
