I finally reached rank 4 for a keyword on Google with 500,000 monthly searches and it's been 3 days and I'm not seeing any traffic from it at all...
10-15 hits a day
What could be the cause of this????

This is frustrating to the max, I don't understand maybe Adword is feeding me some false information.

how many exact searches per month does it have in the google keyword tool?

what country are you in?

what county are you trying to rank for?

I think its safe to say you've been fed false information. 500,000 monthly searches is a LOT!!. From that info, you should be getting a lot more traffic. But 500,000, although not impossible, seems very unlikely, what did you use to accertain this keyword information?. sounds like perhaps you have made a mistake in the keyword research process.

Also, i'd check your bounce rate in Google analytics, that should give you an idea how long they are staying on the site for, perhaps your not keeping them long enough to get to your link :D

I'm in the US and im trying to rank for the US mainly but the world wouldn't hurt
555,000 global searches
246,000 local searches

on google keyword tool you should check searche using "exact" not "broad"

:) everyone make that mistake at first, at least you learned it now and know what to do next time

Although I'm not sure if this explains your situation completely, it may contribute: The differences between top-ten ranking traffic can be exponential.

Example:
  • Spot 4 may give you 5 uniques per day
  • spot 3 may give you 50
  • spot 2 may give you 500
  • spot 1 may give you 5000

Hope that helps :)

Thanks for the help guys ^_^ ya'll are the best!!!
Time for me to go out for a couple of drinks to blow this stress off.
I have allot of work ahead of me fixing all my sites/projects etc

It might be more spread out though but it depends on the keywords.

Ya i made a mistake like this some months ago and bought a exact match thinking it has 25000 searches/month , although i was lucky that it atleast had 2500exact ones also :D

After turn it to "exact" keyword search.. how much u get?
i think many people need to know this..

lol, this so applies to me. Back in the days I joined an Online Marketing consulting firm as trainee SEO and shortlisted some keywords for the projects assigned to me. Within 2 months I ranked them at the top only to be surprised to see very little or no traffic coming my way from those keywords.

What actually happened was that I had selected keywords by taking into account broad match search volume, and they turned out to have very low exact match volume. Needless to say, I learned it the hard way:p

It might be more spread out though but it depends on the keywords.

It depends on millions of factors, but the important thing is to understand the concept and how it might affect your traffic

So much wrong and misleading information. Guys never belive this. Scam and shitty info.

First one on the serps get 25-50% of the traffic. The rest is shared among others. Let me give you an example. For a keyword having 5k a month traffic, I am 14th on the second page and get at least 10-20 visitors.

It's possible that your not on page one everywhere - just could be your clicking on ur site more so google ranks it higher FOR YOU ONLY ...
