Google Console showed crawled but would not index the pages. I thought it had something to do with me building a custom WordPress site. But I could not figure out what was wrong with the custom site. I had an issue for 2 months with no indexing then I finally figured it out.
It was the site map I submitted. The URL has to be exact. I was submitting https://www.example.com/this-is-my-blog but the actually URL was https:/www.example.com/this-is-my-blog/ so when I resubmitted the sitemap with the correct URL Google resolved in 24 hours. So the "/" was my issue.
