Unfortunately, that is quite true. A lot of bots are populating Twitter and it is VERY difficult to stand out the crowd... but not impossible IMHO. ;)

I'm hoping you are correct and with a bit of luck and some very big numbers it will be possible to make some money.

Update:

Started the day testing on a 'sacrificial account', had 121 followers at start of play.

Ran my follow script a couple of times in the same half hour spell and managed to follow another 522 users until I got blocked.

Will try this approach over the next few days to see if it's possible to follow 500+ per day, through the API, on a brand new account without getting it banned.
 
A day of problems today - proxies and mysql server stuff - so not much to report except I managed to follow another 320 users today in one hit without blocking before the mysql problems.
 
Good luck mate and don't kill twitter with your bots and never follow any of my accounts ever.. Lol

Can't seem to get around it ... anyone else faced/overcome this issue?

Update:As usual, life managed to get in the way recently.

It's easy to see why people go at this stuff for a while and then give up as sometimes it just seems too hard or the next 'obstacle' that pops up seems insurmountable. I've felt that way a few times on this journey thing myself but perseverance seems to be paying off - not financially yet but in other ways. I suppose those 'challenges' are a barrier to entry for all but the really determined

... however ...Now got multiple accounts set up - burned about 8 or so getting my head around everything - and have them auto tweeting whenever I want them to.Been scraping content for tweets - takes around 10 mins a day - and scraping accounts to follow.Still not decided what to promote yet, keep changing my mind or, even worse, not thinking about it.All going well, next step is to get the automation of following working - should be done in the next couple of days or so ... then, all being well, full steam ahead.

Got the 'following' part working ok for multiple accounts - thanks to @phpbuilt for his contribution in wizard's twitter thread.

I'm only tweeting 3/4 times a day with scraped content just text no images, no links to my site(s) as yet. Got a couple of followers on my small test run ... wtf is TrueTwit?

Biggest problem so far is sporadic unresponsive proxies ...

Got it all running under crouton on a chromebook for now but need to transfer it all to an ubuntu laptop and get cron jobs set up - that's the next obstacle to overcome as I've never used cron on ubuntu yet

So, if anyone out there can help with the cron setup on ubuntu then please chime in
 
Careful with the following limit. Just because you can do it one day doesn't mean they won't ban you after a few weeks. In my experience there are threshold bans and pattern bans. Patterns bans seem to come in waves every few weeks after you've done something they don't like for a certain duration of time.
 
TrueTwit is a tool to automatically send PM's to your new followers to get more engagement. It also let's you unfollow the people that unfollowed you.

Thanks for the heads-up @jamie3000. I'm trying to counteract both threshold and pattern bans as follows:
For each of my 'projects' I set a max limit to follow each day
I set an upper and lower % figure
each day I take the max limit to follow figure (let's say 450) and multiply it by a random number between the low and high % (let's say .65 and .95)
as I'm planning to run the cron jobs every 5-10 mins, I randomly chunk the follows up between 144 or 288 time slots each day.

I suppose only time will tell but do you think that the 'randomness' I've built in is enough to get around the pattern bans?

On top of all that you could easily add mGid, Content.ad or even Taboola in-text widgets if you are able to get in.

Keep it up, I may stop by to silently gaze at your progress... Be sure to stick with it!

I wish I knew what that meant :(

Looking around, I think I'll either go with crakrevenue or ogmobi ... if I can get in to either. Or maybe I'll do both in separate projects at the same time.
 
quick update:

signed up with a network and trying to figure out how it works ...

once I've got my head around that then will try generic email submit offers - not sure whether to set up my own landing page with multiple offers or simply redirect to offer landing page.

Will probably try both ... any advice appreciated.

btw, I haven't been actively tweeting for days but am still getting followers.
