I know, Pagerank has not been updated for ages now and means nothing.

I have a question about a special case: Lets say there is a 10 years old domain with plenty of good backlinks. It has high PA/DA (> 25) and CF/TF (> 15). These metrics were not manipulated. No spam, nothing suspicious. However, the website expired some years ago and has not been used since then. In a lot of these cases those domains keep a good pagerank (PR 3-5).

But sometimes the Pagerank is 0 although it was certainly much higer in the past. I see this case quite often even for domains which were used for governmental purposes in the past.

Good backlinks, no spam, good PA/DA/CF/TF but PR = 0. Does it mean that the backlinks are devaluated now and the domain is not good for PBN anymore? Why is there a massive PR-drop for some expired domains but for others not?

Just ignore PR. If DA and TF are what you say then it's a great way to spend $10.

I would like to know that too. Maybe I'm superstitious, but I still prefer catching domains that keep their PR.

not sure about this. PR might not mean too much anymore. But if google deliberately cuts down a Pagerank from 3 to 0 then this probably means something.

At a guess I would say that the domains that have kept their toolbar PR were still live at the time of the last public update (or at the time that the data was collated), while those that have lost their PR were not live at this time.

But then you say that the PR is 0 - is it this or is it NA? If it is zero then my theory might not quite follow.

Definitely Go for it!

This sounds logic. But the PR is actually 0 not NA.

Have none of you guys stumbled about his phenomena so far? I see it actually quite often. And I still think if google cuts down the PR of an otherwise fine domain this will have consequences for the backlink power / ability of this domain to serve as a PBN.

Remember pr is only available metric from google.

All you should first confirm the Domain Authority of your website. If it is what you mentioned then it does not matter what PR is now. :)
Sometimes I feel good domain website will get if good SEO then the PR will increase for sure.

PR is still the #1 factor in getting a page to rank better organically. I've said this so many times before and I'll say it again: People have been brainwashed by sellers to believe that Metrics other than PR is whats most important, and that's very wrong.

However, a page with a good backlink profile and a good PA/DA is most likely going to have higher PR than a website with a bad PA/DA, so there is a correlation.

Now that PR is hidden from us, it's just harder to tell the actual PR of pages, but you just need to do some due diligence. If a webpage shows as PR3, and you check the backlink profile on ahrefs and see that there wasnt much of a decrease in backlinks over the last year, it's safe to say that page is still probably pr3, or MAYBE pr2. If you see a page went from 100 domains linking in to 20 domains linking in, it's going to have a bigger drop in PR.

That is also my feeling. I got the best results with domains with good backlinks + good PR. The domains with good backlinks and low PR (0-2) performed weaker as PBNs. However: I am not the most experienced guy on PBNs and dont claim to know the truth. Just my little experience from building ~20 PBNs which is not much.

Regarding my question: I saw examples from domains which did not loose so much referring domains. For example from DP=102 to DP=81. 7 years old domain, still strong links, no spam, no seo-ish websites but non-commercial. But PR=0.

They're PR0 because the domains that are linking in are of low PR as well. Many referring domains doesn't equal high pagerank. A website with 10 pr5 backlinks is going to obtain a higher PR than a website with 200 pr0 backlinks.

No I saw some cases where the linking domains (or a good portion of it) are of high PR but expired domain has PR0 nevertheless. Thats what confuses me

It is doesn't matter if PR = 0PA/DA > 25 and CF/TF > 15 with quality back links then its awesome and worth investing more.
