Filtering bad/redundant/bot clicks

I am curious as to how search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing and filter out bad traffic, like for example the same person clicking on the same ad multiple times, or someone using a bot to click on certain ads. Also, is there a way "around" this, in a way? For example changing your IP?

The trust is Google is VERY good at it... but in Adwords it isn't in their best interest to be "too" good at it. So they may catch some illegitimate clicks, but you need to be keeping an eye on your end as well. Look at your site's IP logs and see if there is a single IP or single range of IPs that click you a lot. See if you are getting clicks from outside the regions you are targeting. Then if you notice fishy stuff you can blacklist them or call Google.

They show recaptcha if they see continuous traffic from one ip and on your side you can use software to filter bad traffic.
