Hey guys,

So I'm moving to Philippines in a few months to start a business. Now, I still can't decide whether to go for Davao City or Cebu.

What do you guys think?

Cebu is the best choice. The place is farther from the troubled hot spots in the Muslim south. The beaches are great plus the work force are plentiful.

+1 on Cebu... Davao is currently under a lot of trouble lately. So just to be safe, go with cebu if you are planning to start a business. :)

Awesome. So far, everyone is recommending Cebu. Also, I have some friends there, so all good :)

If anyone here is from Cebu, please PM me or add me on Skype - shady.halloun

Thanks guys!

Davao is not a place that I would go to, but I am a white guy who likes to take it easy. I guess depends on if you are worried about guerillas down there.

Cebu is nice, lots of call centers, people who are very fluent in english. I looked into a place there but ended up being lazy and not following through on it.

Going back to Phils for another 3 weeks, nice place to getaway to and work. I have several workers that are just amazing.

Have you been before, and what made you choose these two places as a base to work from?

Hey there! I am from Davao. I've never been to Cebu but well I would recommend Davao, as you can see they were telli'n like Davao is scary. Yeah I agree there are many guerillas here but as you can see the Mayor of the city knows how to deal with them. Though there are killings almost everyday here those were drug dealers, pushers, bank robbers, stealers etc.. As far as I'm concern this is the most safest city in mindanao.

Btw you can check on youtube how Mayor Duterte deals with those guys.
Anyways your the one who will decide.
Good luck!

Yes avoid Davao for now, even if it is such a wonderul place.. Stick to cebu or go far north baguio, ilocs norte.. very safe

Davao is perfectly safe for expats. I've lived here for four years and find the city safer than Manila and Cebu when it comes to petty crime, scams, etc.

There are some places 4-5+ hours away that you'd want to avoid, but anywhere in or around the city is perfectly fine.

Most of the worry about Davao is from hyped up news - not from anyone that's actually been here.

Davao is much safer for privacy and doing business. Cebu is a nice city, but underneath it is is filled with corruption and extortion targeting it's foreign residents. Since foreigners in Cebu are rather wealthy they have been raising the bar for others who are targeted by public administration. I think crime rate against foreigners is highest in the Philippines in Cebu and Angeles City. As an alternative try Butuan.
