Fight! SOPA guys

Jeez - this has to be at least the 10th thread I've read about SOPA here... :D

Anyways, I really don't think it will be able to pass and if it does I doubt the gov. will actually be able to make use of it due to the huge implications.

Since when? really...

And you do know that they are pretty much done with it all right? It IS passed.

unreal. We just lost our control of the internet. Again the government puts there input into our rights. This is just another way for them to control us. Are they really trying to put google out of business that bad? Are they trying to control the news and disconnect us from each other online? Its all a conspiracy to control the media. When the shit hits the fan in this country, all the sites we would use to band together would be shut down for "rouge" behavor. Watch here it comes.

(retarded) People like censorship and control, just look at how the internet is run publicly. In stead of free speech and open discussion we get moderation and akismet hah. The line between what people can and should do is skewered by evil on both sides. There is no escaping the inevitable destruction of free will and human interaction.

It hasnt passed yet. It didnt even make it out of mark up today. The opponents did a pretty good job of stalling it. They only made it through like 6 of the 60 amendments to be considered on it. The stalling is important because it will buy the opposition a chance to better organize when it goes to the floor for a vote. Every day that there is a growing outcry against it, more politicians will start shying away from it....just gotta keep on them.

Even it does pass it wont be the end of the world. There are numerous constitutional lawyers that have come out saying it wont survive a court challenge...it will at least violate existing trade agreements and constitutional rights at a minimum. Not saying we should back down or stop rallying against it. Just saying, even we lose round one...they still gotta get passed round 2 (incorporating its provisions with the senate's version....arguably the most important step in the legislative process because the bills can change DRASTICALLY during this stage and be signed by obama) and round 3 (court challenges. If it passes it will immediately be challenged and likely be blocked until the court proceedings are completed could take years and it will be extremely difficult for it to survive this step). Just gotta keep crying bloody murder....its an election year....what politician wants to be branded as the guy or girl who broke the internet?

I want to have the same optimism towards this but that slimey fuck Osama has pulled off quite a few bamboozlements in his time already... The chances of any douchebag bill being retorted or severely changed is almost nil in today's government (Latin for mind control).

Oh yeah, I dont think there is much of any chance that obama would veto it...I think he has only vetoed like 2 bills or something like that. The best defense will be in the courts....mainly the supreme court. The court has pretty steadily upheld freedom of speech, and there is almost no way of implementing this bill without blatantly violating many peoples right to free speech. However, our best bet is still to kill it before it gets that far. Lets just hope the deep pockets of silicon valley and the public outcry that is continuing to grow can put an end to this before it makes it that far.

Yep, I rather it die now and put a bump in the road of their takeover than have to deal with it later as an after effect.
