If we have billions and billions of stars with planets.
And billions of planets in habitable zone across all Milky way.
And Sun is not that old but an average solar system/civilization.
Which implies there must have been millions before us.

Then where are they all?

They don't have to be in a certain place at a certain time. Could be everywhere anytime.
Once we get out of this confined perspective, we can see all of them.
 
Don't big civilizations leave big trails after them? Even if humans disappear the presence of them on Earth will be spotted for millions of years.
 
You meant like a carbon-based organism will leave carbon-based trails. Do they have to be carbon-based?
 
Not all. But why not like 10000 of carbon-based could exist previously? Like us.
 
you know... knowing how gorgeous and big our galaxy is .. it just simply let me believe in other spices and there is another earth and also anything is possible.. and about the civilization question of yours.. i think as we had to dig really hard to find dinosaurs civilization .. it is may be the same with other civilizations which gone far long.. i hope i am making any sense.. i am really tired.. lol
 
Either a great filter that prevents civilizations to reach interstelar travelling level of technology which currently still lies ahead of us and was the reason for previous civilizations to get extinct, or, a selection bias that makes life and specifically sentient life extremely rare and we just may be the first and only sentient beings in the Universe.
 
I believe life in the world is an anomaly. I was researching more on this topic about the fermi paradox and the conclusion I came up with for myself

Right. Have recently listened to ted speech dedicated to the Fermix paradox.
A guy there suggests that there is a big fat filter. Yet, it is behind us. The planets like earth are not unique. Life is not unique either. Intelligent and tech-savvy life is unique. So much unique that could be 1-2-3 in a galaxy or even the observable universe.
The filter exists. It is the intelligence.
