Feeling great today! Got my first big client after trying for so hard!

I am feeling awesome today as i got my first international client on upwork. I tried so hard to compete with other designers out there and got no luck but finally today i got noticed and finally got hired. Luckily there are 2 more interviews going on. I was determined to build my portfolio strong enough to get clients there. It is sad to see some mediocre designers with not so great skills are getting hired easily and on the other side people with great portfolios are not being able to achieve anything there.

Updated my portfolio, my profile, finetuned my proposals and then I started getting offers!

Take great care of the client, the reviews are important in upwork. also if this is your first, it encourages others to hire you when they see your history.

Yes i started offering my service dirt cheap in order to get some reviews but it turns out, offering too low is also a red flag for the clients. Upwor is pretty hard :(

Upwork is better than most, they screen you well and allow you to have limited offers. Also not fully infested with hundreds of agency teams. "Pretty hard" is not the right word, the other popular and cheap saturated platforms are hard without dumping a lot of transfer fees on fake jobs and bypassing exams.
 
Congrats. Keep them coming for more.
Eventually, you can take them off the platform.

Congrats buddy. Do publish a guides. I have tried over 9 years now to land on my first job upwork. Haven't got any yet. haha. Seems like you need to have luck as well.

I have tried too much to call it a luck, its just hpw you present your skills to your client
 
If you're not getting hired regularly, there's probably a good reason for it.
I used get work regularly on Upwork, but I left the platform, because it's a lot more high maintenance than other client sources.

The key is to only pick the most ideal customers, and tailor your proposal copy for that exact client profile.

Not sure what your portfolio looks like, but I'm guessing that it's actually quality, because if it's not, then that's an obvious problem.
Also, your ability to convey that you speak English is really important.
I find that it's very common for VAs to assume they can speak English really well, and they don't seem to be aware that their English is actually very poor, or clearly fraudulent.
