My team is a coding/creating an open source social media management solution. With features of Hoosuite,Sproutsocial, Sendible etc.

Why Open Source -

Well, the current products in market like hootsuite, sproutsocial etc which are SAAS based solutions are rigid in architecture and cannot be customized to meet the editorial and workflow requirments of today's social media agencies. We did a survey and found that media agencies would prefer implementing their own solutions which can cater to the specific requirements that they have. ********** wants to serve that market.

Social Media department is not just yet another marketing department now, its a nessecity for brands and companies and a customizable open source solution would definitely be appreciated in this space/industry.

I would like to know what would be the best ways to monetize the software and the product.

So far, of the few things which I can think right off my head and which I plan to implement are -

1. Give the community edition for free and charge for the enterprise version(which will be covered with SLA and support by us.)

2. Sell a SAAS solution as well at a much cheaper price. Hootsuite's agency plans have some stupid pricing model, they charge $25-$250 per report. Ridiculous!

3. Create a marketplace for plugins and themes where individual developers can make apps for the platform and agencies which have downloaded the platform will be able to buy those plugins and themes. Similar to wordpress and magento's monetization model.

4. Sell training and software consultation around the product like Zend is doing.

Other than this, if you can guys can suggest anything else it would be awesome.

If you want to download and play around with the software you can go here -

or on github

The software is coded in C#.NET and ASP.NET, we will be porting it to mono.net soon so it can run on linux.

Backend is Mysql or PostgreSQL and mongo DB.

If you have any feature ideas which you want implemented, feel free to pm me or post here, we shall get them added or you can directly post on github or codeplex as well.

If you are a developer and want to contribute to this awesome project, pm me and we can talk.

Thanks for the feedback , I have not launched it yet, just posted it here for initial feedback. The other pages which you mentioned are work in progress.

Yeah SAAS is in my plan, but I don't want to sound like a me too product, that's why we are working on identifying some USPs.

Hout sweet is huge. They get that scale from integrating with companies like adobe and Google. Their free customers are just little fish to keep the small peeps happy. Work on that and you might have a chance of taking this big assuming you are looking to make this a grand scale business not just a small bst product.

I am sure they are huge. I am not really looking to sell this just as a BST product as anyways its opensource and marketers here can just download and get it installed paying some freelancer or doing it themselves.

This product has the potential to raise millions of dollars in VC funds and get acquired by some giants at some stage and am working towards that goal. Just wanted some feedback from the community here as we are all marketers and this is a software for social media marketers.

Your platform really looks amazing!
I downloaded the source from Github, but there's no database file included so I cant run it?

Where can we find this file?
Cheers,

Looks awesome, but the installation seem a bit difficult. Then again, I am not that familiar with IIS. If this was a LAMP solution it wouldn't be much of a problem.

I tried to add you on Skype sumit.gh2050

It was a cool site.

What this equates to facebook clone?

A few days ago I made a google clone and the results are disappointing.

Star up in great need of substantial funds at the beginning of the marketing

Hi OP,

I just signed up as new user in your site. looks like, it not publishing the posts to social media profiles.

Are you still actively working on this?

Yes its being actively developed, leave your issue in the support forums and a developer will check it. Please be detailed as much as possible.

Well so much for your 'open source' idea.. looked at your site and all you offer are plans like any other commercial offer..
LOL

Will definitely want to take a look at this app. Sumit does it work properly and where can I see some sample videos of working in the action?

Thanks
