Looks like FB is being allowed to trademark the word "face" when used in conjunction with anything "social messaging" and such.
Facebook's hold over "Face" usages in "Telecommunication services, namely, providing online chat rooms and electronic bulletin boards for transmission of messages among computer users in the field of general interest and concerning social and entertainment subject matter, none primarily featuring or relating to motoring or to cars."

Update: A commenter points out that aside from the issue fee, Facebook will have file a Statement of Use and use the trademark on its own in commerce before it has actual legal claim over the word "Face." Right now it only uses the word "Face" in conjunction with "book," but that will have to change if it wants to have any right to the trademark.
 
might hold up in the u.s but not in the uk

They'll go the way of myspace in a few years they are attracting too much negativity towards them with their actions. Karma will work itself out.
 
LOL why dont they just make money from ads and not lawsuit? I cant really understand why they're doing this.

FaceBook is the next big thing... until.. it isn't. Things turn quite quickly on the Internet, especially in the social networking field.

Google was well aware of the next big thing coming at them... just as I'm sure FaceBook is well aware of someone coming after them. IMHO companies like Zynga... are the biggest threat to FaceBook. These guys can be "deal breakers". Imagine if Google buys out Zynga and uses them on their social gaming network, and pulls ALL Zynga games from FaceBook. Big changes... would happen.

On the issue of trademarking "face"... I've heard rumors that they want to trademark "face" for EVERYTHING. I think the U.S patent/trademark office is completely out of control. Next I am going to trademark "ass". I'm sure if I had enough money from my proctology firm.. I could LOL

facebook is like google or microsoft. it's not going anywhere and will remain #1 forever
