Keeping traffic on Facebook is difficult these days. Apps, pages etc all die off fast when you're doing blackhat yet people like myself are still banking.

I don't mind sharing this because there is plenty to go around. Read up, learn, and take action.

Unless you're a skilled developer, the one way to keep traffic would be to get the user to install an .exe. This is risky. Requires skill. And you have to continue to stay ahead of the AV's. Let's throw that out the window.

But, what if you could control the user in some way? Publish to their status? Invite their friends to events? All sorts of lovely stuff .... YOU CAN!

The answer is in toolbars/extensions. These go into the browser, go unnoticed by the user and you can pretty much do whatever you like with the user without them knowing. They are constantly running too. I say toolbars because people can relate to what a toolbar is, but the real term for these things are extensions. Extensions can be invisible.

If you've never seen browser extensions type into Google "Chrome Extensions" and browse the store.

If you've been around Facebook you would have seen the video codec type extension that asks you to install the extension to watch the video. It pretends you need a plugin to watch it. Once install the owner of the extension can do what he likes on your browser. Cool huh?

My whos.amung.us has over 45,000 online all the time. Some have over 100k. I can do anything with them. Popup offers, content lock their browser, redirect them to a YT video to increase the views, like a page, post to their status, to many possibilities.

This is nothing new, people have been doing this for a long time. I was doing it in March last year. I'm still using the same toolbar for one of them.

So, there is the background. Now, how do you make one.

If you're ok at programming I'd do a Chrome extension. It's easy to create an extension for Chrome. If you're good at programming then go for FireFox too. If you're a bad ass hit IE. Be warned, IE extensions are not for the feint hearted. Took me a long time to do my IE extension.

When creating the extension create something useful. "Facebook Ads Remover", "Facebook Chat Notification", "Facebook Profile Customiser". Creating a video codec type extension will get your toolbar blocked. The user is likely to remove it if they notice they liked pages they wasn't aware of. If they find it useful they won't want to remove it because they use it.

When creating the toolbar you want a way to issue actions to the user. It's no good programming it to like a page, and then having no way to issue new commands to like a different page, or to write a custom status. To issue commands you need to include a JavaScript file on a server you own. That way, you can change the content of the JS on your server, and the extension will include it. To be on the safe side include backup domains. So if one server is down, it will load it from another.

I use a cookie in my external JS. If the cookie is set it wont issue the command. But I can set a new cookie so I can issue commands to all extension users.

Toolbars can go viral. Just like pages. When the user installs the extension write on their status "I'm using XXXX for facebook pretty cool {LINK}", write it on their friends wall too. Stick to 10 friends, the user will get blocked from FB if you do it too much. I include a custom spinner in my script so it spins different statuses each time.

So, when someone installs, it goes out to 10 of their friends. Constantly viral. Spin the domains you post to FB and you'll be good to go.

Just build your extension. Don't use it for a few months. Let it grow naturally. Let people find it useful. When you come to using scripts on FB, or creating pages, you have a lot of traffic to go instantly viral.

So, there you have it. Enjoy. Ask questions and I will answer.

There is a lot of traffic to go around. This is not about keeping a method secret because the guys abusing this will have their extensions removed by users. Keep it clean.

I do not use FB to post add's but I like where you are going with this and will revisit later once those who use it have chimed in.

    Thanks for sharing.

For FF and Chrome you have to use Javascript (some XML, HTML and CSS knowledge would be beneficial too).

For IE it's pretty much C++. At least that's what I used. Spent days researching on IE extensions though.

No I don't lock their browser. Amongst other things I create viral pages, and then use the pages to divert traffic to viral offer scripts. I don't really do content locking anymore. It's just something that's possible.

yet another person who is not able to tell the difference between blackhat and illegal.

Feds showing up on your doorstep=illegal.

That being said, there are legitimate ways to do this, just need to be smart about it.

This is great thinking, is there such an extension that does what you stated being sold or available?

Content locking wouldn't be great as you would get a huge number of negative reviews, killing your toolbar.
If you're thinking long term, do a reverse ad blocker. So say on FB & G, you replace 1 in every 5 ads with your ad (try and make it go unnoticed), or change the links to your Aff link... etc.

I haven't used any of these toolbars yet, but I'm guessing if it can 'like' pages and make this process hidden, you can make your own facebook traffic... While keeping your toolbar 'safe'.
