I was told that by FB guidelines that's it's illegal (sort of) to promote a business by using a personal FB page.

True or crap? Just need some clarification on this.

Thanks......Mike

Then I've been illegal since FB opened up for non-students...lol.

there is a fine line between "promoting" and spamming, and the latter one is not allowed. If you're a person connected to a business, it's all good. I doubt they'd kick Tony Robbins, or Paris Hilton...they all promote their business...

great answer, but what if a restaurant puts up a "personal page" and promotes it like a fan page?

Is this in violation?

There's no something like personal page, there's only personal profile. And imo pages are much better, you can add fbml and create a nice landing pages and there is much more stuff which you can't do with profile.

Btw, I have local bars and clubs as my friends in my real profile for more than two years (since I created profile), and none of them got banned.

Illegal? No. Against their TOS? Yes. Whether or not that's breaking a contract, I dunno.

thanks.......but where do you find their TOS.....I've looked everywhere.

you can promote and youll be fine. but word of advice, say your using a personal account and promoting it. promote other fan pages as well, even like big bands or businesses.
