What's the best way to direct people from your fan page to your site.

I have tried straight links but I find images with a link on top get's heaps more reach.

Is this not a better way to do it? I still see heaps of fan pages with straight links though...

Reach wise:
Links < Image with links < Image.
Also, Likes < shares < comments.

What is the difference between an image vs an image with a link in the description it's the same thing?

Of course links with images are better. It's like your lure for fans to click on the link. And with facebook, links with images look more like just plain images and when fans or followers click it they're taken to the site. Especially if follower is using mobile... and most real users use mobile now.

Both ways work for different purposes. It really depends what your site is about (are you trying to sell something?) and also your bidding type.
