Hey blackjack, don't mind the idiot where are a bunch of those lurking around here. Gotta keep the bug mask on at all times, like of like a good mosquito net.
That said: Yes I have had some success. As for which niches work? ANY. Seriously ...
Well, any that they will approve of.
Assuming you don't try to market anything illegal nor immoral they will approve your ad as long as you follow a few simple rules:
- Read their best practices page, VERY VERY useful when making 'proper' ads
- Read the ads TOS thingy. It's short, but useful.
- NEVER EVER Send any one DIRECTLY to your website (directly to a fan page is OK).
So, on the last point:
Make a sandwich page. NOT a squeeze page, but a sandwich page.
What is a sandwich page you ask? It's a page that sits between the AD and your page and acts as a nice little buffer so that FB will approve your AD.
What's on the sammich page? Simple template (html/css) and some text. Don't put anything else on there except for some text that explains your page/product/you/affiliate/something remotely related to your page/something useful .... AND (this is important) a simple link (or button) that says something like:
"Click here to continue to XYZ" or "Click here to read more about my awesome BHW method which will get you a BAJILLION Babies and monies and babes! WOOT!"
... you get the point.
Other than that: I've had decent success with it. Don't mess up your ads too much or you run the risk of them banning your ad account. Which would suck.
My account it still ok. I get anywhere between $0.01 and $0.03 per click, assuming I do PPC or about $.05 to $0.23 when I do CPM (depends on who I'm targeting).
Just target the right people ... DON'T go for massive traffic. FB ads are made for highly targeted traffic, which will bring you plenty of traffic, so it's ok if it goes slow. If it does, SPLIT test!
Hope that helps!
